    Dangers of hypoglycemia

Makes me wonder if it isn't worth getting one of those medi ID tag things, didn't particularly want to show the world I'm diabetic, but it's frightening to think that paramedics could make an assumption of being drunk :(

    Cold in inside

I'm always too hot inside and I have an overactive thyroid, perhaps yours are all under active

    Injecting in public

Well the confidence rubbed off enough for me to inject in a restaurant at lunchtime. I was a bit put off when my friend chose an exposed table right in the middle of the restaurant rather than a booth. Apart from her having a nosey, which she would anyway, and being surprised the needle was...

Do you think Universities do enough to cater for diabetics?

You can request extra time, rest breaks etc. in exams, this has to be arranged well before you do them, so there is no need to suffer any disadvantage.

    Injecting in public

Thank you! The discussions have boosted my confidence loads that I can just get on with injecting and never mind everyone else :) There's enough to worry about getting right without concerning myself about other people reactions. And my gut reaction that the loo isn't the place to inject seem...

    Injecting in public

Hi all I'm new to injecting, and now on Lantus once a day (which I do at noon) and Apidra with meals. Not been well for a couple of months while this was all developing and have been off work, am due to go back soon. I would like to ask peoples experiences of injecting at work, in restaurants...

Numbers gone out of the window

Seems to be something seriously up the spout with my fasting numbers/Lantus reading the above! I go to bed with readings of between 12 and 15 mmol and on waking they are 7.5 to 9.5 mmol!!! so that isn't right at all if they are not supposed to change during the night! eeeek! I have fiddled a...

Numbers gone out of the window

Ah, the two changes at once! Yes can see that. I am improving a little on 18 units Lantus 4, 4 and 8 or 10 Apridra, depending on before evening meal results. 7's and 9's are better to see than 17's and 23's! Had a long chat with Diabetes nurse yesterday, and she is telling me that it's...

Numbers gone out of the window

Thank you for your replies. It is the Diabetes Nurse at the hospital who is changing my dose at the moment. It was on her advice that I reduced the Lantus (I had a hypo the night before this) and increased the Apidra (to get better control in the evening). Sorry I don't think I am writing it...

Numbers gone out of the window

Hi recently diagnosed Type 1. Started on Lantus a couple of weeks ago then Apidra. Managed to get some control of the numbers, although not nice and low, at least getting some consistency with waking BG's around 8 and between 6.5 - 14 during the day (I know that's not low, but they were...

    Do Air Bubbles Matter

Hope this isn't too stupid a question! I'm very new to injecting, only 2 weeks in! I have an air bubble in my Lantus Disposable Pen, is that ok? It won't come out cos of the needle not starting at the top of the vial, and I'm not going to inject with the needle at the highest point,. Can...

How do doctors decide which type of diabetes you have?

Hi and thanks for your reply I guess one of my concerns about this is that I am interested in Dafne, but all I read says it's only suitable for Type 1, and they haven't finally made up their minds. Metformin never really did anything for me, neither did any of the things they have tried tablet...

How do doctors decide which type of diabetes you have?

Hi all I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 years ago. After a great deal of problems with my blood sugar over the last 6 weeks or so my consultant has put me on long acting insulin daily and is considering a short acting injection perhaps once a day. So far just my fasting sugars ie. first...

Problems 4 years into type 2

Well guys, thank you for all your advice, I'm listening hard and trying to learn :D Was told to start checking my ketones if my bg is over 14 consistently, which it is, and these have been totally negative until the last couple of days when I have started to get somewhere between a trace and...

Problems 4 years into type 2

Oooh heck, diet! I don't weigh anything. Example of yesterday any help? For breakfast I had half a teacup of oats made into porridge with skimmed milk (milk seems to be pushing my glucose up even though i don't have a lot) for lunch I had a chicken salad, salad veg, no pasta or anything...
