This is not supposed to happen on Metformin alone.

Why not have a little something to treat a possible hypo if you have symptoms and your sensor says you're on the low side as well - instead of eating hours before the possible lowish BG happens? Do you know what your latest hba1c was? You only mention numbers within and on the low side of the...

Wow @Rosie9876 , you've really been through the mill, I'm sorry! However: This whole study is on people who experienced severe hypos, which are hypos causing unconsciousness or seizures and needing hospital treatment. You do not fall in this category, despite having numerous health issues. I...

I I've been trying to find the full publication, and I haven't succeeded so far.

Just getting back to this because the researchers had a different conlusion than you paint here. From their study: "Conclusions: Severe hypoglycemia is clearly indicative of declining health and is a potent marker of high absolute risk of cardiovascular events and mortality." So it's the other...

As a T1, does porridge keep you stable without injecting insulin for it, or do you need insulin for porridge? All carbs raise blood glucose. As a T1, you can inject for carbs, your husband can't. Would he be interested in eating less carbs, and have something like bacon and eggs (no toast) for...

    Many T2's are on insulin.

Very high blood sugars and ketones after a procedure.

Did you get any steroids, either through a drip or by mouth? Can it be you have some inflammation going on as a result of the procedure, or completely unrelated? Both steroids and inflammation can raise BG. Can you drop your endo or diabetes nurse a note to talk about dose adjustments?

This is not supposed to happen on Metformin alone.

The summary in your link doesn't say what medications the people in this study were on. My bet is that almost all of the people who had episodes of severe hypoglyceamia (unconsciousness or seizures, and needing hospital intervention) were on insulin, it's possible that a few were on gliclazide...

This is not supposed to happen on Metformin alone.

You asked why it isn't life threatening. Dropping to 3 is not life threatening for anyone, even if your sensor reads correctly. Dropping dead from lows is just not a thing, unless you're on insulin. Even for diabetics on insulin, it's very rare, and almost always in combination with alcohol...

    Chronic Kidney Disease

I don't, but I'll tag @Grant_Vicat who has had CKD for a long time. Anything specific you want to ask about?

This is not supposed to happen on Metformin alone.

Because your liver will dump glucose in your bloodstream in reaction to a low if necessary.

    Gain weight

Hi @Billya , What insulin(s) are you on, and what does your blood glucose usually look like?

    HBA1C

It's a good number depending how you arrived at it. Hba1c tells you something about your average blood glucose during the past 3 months. According to your profile, you're on insulin, which can cause low BG, is this still correct? So an hba1c of 38 can be the result of nicely stable BG not going...
