    Occasional Treats

Hi Galwayindublin :D I've been low carbing for two years and my tolerance for carbs is very low now. If I have a large packet of crisps, a small tub of potato salad or more than a couple of scoops of a lower carb ice cream I will have bad indigestion for hours then throw up. Asked my GP...

    hypo

I'm all for sharing information but IMO hypos can be serious and if a person is having them regularly from either oral meds or insulin s/he should be going back to GP/consultant and getting dosage adjusted rather than buying jam.

    Dietetics

My GP asked me if I'd like to see a dietician, at no point did he pressure me into going. He totally accepted my view, that it would be a waste of time since the dietician would likely yawn on about carbs, just like the DSN did. I think if you're low carbing and have to see a consultant...

Qatar has one of highest rates of diabetes in region

I've seen figures that make Dubai the second worst nation for diabetes in the world after an island near Fiji. In Kuwait there is a doctor who advocates low carb, Dr Hussein Dashti.

My 3 Highest Glucose Retention Foods

I'm wondering why anyone with Type 2 diabetes not on insulin would be contemplating takeaways, muffins, scones, subways and choc ices :!:

    My doc say's

I've tested long enough to know that my problem is the Dawn Phenomenon and if the Metformin gets that down early (question of timing) then I produce enough insulin to cope with the low carb load my body gets at lunch and dinner. When I reduced the amount of carbs from 100g per day to 50g per day...

    Metformin

Metformin has been around since the 50s and it's really cheap. I had rear end probs with Metformin and switched to Metformin SR. Even so if I manage to miss a dose or am hours late taking it I can get probs but it doesn't give me nausea or GI discomfort now that I've been taking it a few years...

Too much TV causes diabetes T2?

I don't have a TV either, it went wrong in 1997 and we never bothered getting another one. Are portable DVD players as bad ?? And laptops ?? What about CD players ??

    Insulin resistant - worried mum

Re: INSULIN RESISTANT -- WORRIED MUM agree with elainechi, what I'd suggest too. The drug often used to treat PCOS is Metformin, which is also used to treat metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. In a recent study it was shown to kill breast cancer stem cells in the lab too.

Diabetes prevention - diet & exercise

First of all, more power to your elbow for wanting to do something to prevent yourself being diagnosed with diabetes. Since you're so motivated, I will tell you that the best way to avoid the diagnosis is to drastically cut those carbs. Yes you will get people who'll tell you that...

    Foot Care

When it comes to foot advice some of the NHS advice is sound, some isn't. I would never attack my feet with a metal file for example for fear of removing too much skin and getting an infection. On the other hand, you'll see that you're not supposed to put any cream between your toes - I guess...

    Denmark taxes Fatty foods.

I think we need to find the bill and read it and find out whether it is a tax on fat or a tax on junk food. I'm all for a tax on burgers, fries, takeaways, pasties, cupcakes and regular Coke, Pepsi, Red Bull etc. But if someone wants to eat cheese, they should have healthy cheese not cheese...
