    NHS Dietitian Contradicting Himself

I have read these posts with great interest. After losing about 9 kilos, i had a routine check up at diabetes clinic and am now considered 'in remission'! When we began to discuss diet i told her that i had started to LCHF in May last year and lost on average 1 kilo per month. My weight has now...

    Diabetes care in the UK

Hi Bob, I am a UK national, living full time in France, i think very near you...... same village if i am not mistaken! I am type 2 , diagnosed about 6 years ago and cant get test meter or strips paid for so in the beginning i did buy a meter in England and can get the strips over the counter...

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

Thanks, I bought raspberries and blackcurrants today, always have cream in fridge as i use it in coffee to give it a bit of substance and keep the calorie and fat count up. I might have that for the 'brunch' tomorrow. and will test before and after to see what it does. Never tested this much...

    Caught a spike!

It was a can of sugar free lemonade. (330ml) One kcal, with 'no trace' of carbs at all, no fat. Sweetening agent sucralose, acesulfame, Potassium and Sorbitol. (Having seen this in print, i might not ever drink it again). I dont have breakfast as i follow a sort of hybrid Atkins/Intermittent...

    Caught a spike!

Hi again, as you probably know from earlier question, i am very interested in the testing process because i have not really got a handle on it at all and i dont get any help from my diabetes clinic. in fact, they did not want me to test at all until recently. I tested mmol this morning...

Any tips for recording food values quickly?

Thanks, i think i understand what you are saying, but i dont have a fitnesspal app and i dont buy anything with a barcode as i dont use processed or packaged food at all. some of the stuff i cook at home, (for example my curry sauce or beef chilli) has about 20 elements to it. I just look at the...

Any tips for recording food values quickly?

They appear to want a total of how many g of carbs, fat calories etc i have eaten.at each meal and what my BS readings are 2 hours after eating. (they are still VERY hung up on calories and fat content over here) I am hoping to prove from the chart that if i eat the amount of carbs that they...

Any tips for recording food values quickly?

I have been given a fairly comprehensive 'diet diary' by my diabetes nurse to complete for a month running up to my next consult with the diabetes doc. Obviously, i list EVERYTHING i eat and at what time, and i also have columns for BS readings before meals and 2 hours after. Ok so far. HOWEVER...

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

That's what i was so confused about. Since i started following the Atkins program, I don't eat cereals in any form, but the 'ideal' diet they gave me said muesli with fruit and yoghurt or porridge with fruit for breakfast or wholemeal bread....... so i tried it. I saw from the meter readings...

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

Yes, i have found that if i go above 60g carbs per day the weight loss stops and sometimes i even started to gain, my ideal level seems to be about 50g per day. I dont normally test frequently because i dont get the strips on prescription but i am going to ask at my next appointment.

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

I have a good understanding of Low Carb dieting, have read the diet doctor site you suggest and have followed it (basically adapted Atkins diet) for some time. My blood sugar level has dropped and stabilised and i have lost weight BUT it does not appear to be compatible with the information i...

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

I am in rural south west france, certainly nearer Toulouse than Lille! The advice on here is much more helpful than that given by my 'health experts' but i suspect when they read my diary, they will shrug and tell me that its my own fault for not following their advice, not eating more complex...

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

From what i have now gleaned, breakfast is not the most important meal of the day after all! I will go back to intermittent fasting and LCHF and to about 30 - 40g carbs per day. I had cut out all bread, pasta Rice, potatoes, sugar and cereals and i think that is why my levels had improved. The...

Confused by testing, what exactly am i looking for?

The Atkins diet seemed to be the only one which worked for me as a weight loss tool and coincidentally, it appears to be the healthy option for T2 diabetes . I have adapted it to suit me and i have had a steady weight loss for the last 9 months, about a kilo per month. I now combine the Low Carb...
