I've read the lancet article and am trying to understand the findings. Are they saying:
1. Low carb diet with plant based protein/fats is better than a medium carb diet
or
2. Low carb diet with plant based protein/fats is worse than medium carb diet but just not as bad as low carb with...
Also interesting comment that fructose ignites the flame and then glucose adds logs to the fire. So pointing at fructose as the trigger.
I thought I was eating healthily with my 7 a day of bananas grapes and melon !!
Thanks for your replies. I’m trying to look objectively at the science. However I was a physicist not a biochemist so It could be I’m missing something.
I know there are strongly held views on the diet / cholesterol / CVD correlations and that there have been several threads discussing this. So far the most compelling information I've found is from Prof Ken Sikaris. He is a pathologist at Melbourne Pathology and does not appear to have any...
I had cold feet about 9 months ago which progressed to painful feet when walking. The neurologist diagnosed 'mild neuropathy'. I was very low in vit D and quite low in B12 at the time and I was prediabetic. Over about 6 months I brought my HBA1c down to well within normal (31) through...
I find that with lowish carbs (40-60) I have to also keep an eye on total calories otherwise I put on weight. Main weak point for me are those 'small snacks' of nuts which can add a massive number of calories in a blink. I couldn't have peanut butter in the house either !
Thanks for the explanation... it makes sense and is in line with the original idea of mimicking bariatric surgery. Much more sense than just losing a lot of weight over however long a period. I'll take a look at that paper.
Very well done for sticking rigidly to the diet. I have read your posts every day and saw your struggle with reducing the insulin and the slow loss of weight on only 800kcal. I also admire your scientific approach. I've read quite a bit of Prof Taylors work on the twin cycle hypothesis and...
Yes I tried it last week. Bought 8 bottles but only drank 1 of them and will probably pour others away. I thought it tasted awful... much prefer coors light but it’s higher carbs
I find that snacking on nuts makes me gain weight. Nuts are a great source of all the good stuff, but are so very easy to grab in handfuls before I stop myself. I try to limit them to about 10 grams per day (eg 10 almonds).
I understand that when eating LCHF you have to get more calories from fat and protein to replace all the calories you no longer get from carbs. Also I've read that low fat versions of dairy products typically contain more carbs. Hence I've been eating full fat cheese instead of light / low fat...
