Type 1 I tested positive for ZnT8 antibodies but nowhere closer to knowing which type.

Not once did I ask for anyone to diagnose me, if you’d read it properly I asked for people’s experiences and advice. I don’t say I’ve got a diagnosis either I said the consultant is unsure due to family history of T2 but the positive antibody is showing T1. I wish people would read properly...

Type 1 I tested positive for ZnT8 antibodies but nowhere closer to knowing which type.

Hi guys, So I put up a thread about 2 months ago confused about the type of diabetes I have as the consultant can’t determine it yet and I got so much love and helpful answers. However, I now know which antibody tests are negative/positive and a timeline of when I likely developed diabetes...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

I’ve not spoke to them about it no, the consultant said to stay on it but the insulin seems to keep my levels really high even on the metformin. I’ll carry on taking the insulin with the metformin from now on even if it causes high levels as I know it’s dangerous in T1 not to have the insulin. I...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Here’s a funny one for you guys if anyone sees this. So if you look through my thread you’ll see all the details relating to my questions. Since starting metformin 4 days ago and only taking long lasting insulin once in those 4 days because I’ve felt like ****, my glucose levels have actually...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Honestly, I have no idea ‍♀️ to me it’s blatantly obvious and clearly it is to others too but she’s basing it purely on the T2 in my family. My dad was diagnosed at around age 50 and she said “most of the time the diagnosis gets younger through generations” ermmm since when lol I agree a second...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Yea definitely it would be more clear on the treatments etc I need to go through. I think the unsurity (not a word I know lol) is certainly because I’m so early on. Unfortunately it seems the insulin isn’t helping much, I reached a highest level of 22.6 yesterday evening. I feel the effects of...

Completely agree with this. I had no idea there’s actually more types of diabetes than just T1 and T2, there’s so many misconceptions and confusion around it all in general but now I know the basics I think the metformin is a good step to take for me. Like you said, everyone’s different

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

I think this is the main stressor as having an official diagnosis can open up different doors. I know with both types that diet and exercise are important but more so to get into remission with T2 so it’s a little frustrating but I’m just going to do the best I can [emoji5] I’d love a...

I agree with Antje77 about the metformin being used in conjunction with insulin, there’s a lot of research to suggest it helps the insulin work better. However I understand what you mean as if the metformin doesn’t do anything then what’s the point lol I’d expect it to be proven by the results...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Ohh right ok I get it now [emoji5] thank you for clearing that up, it makes so much more sense now as they took the blood tests before I was on insulin so a cpeptide will be next then. That’s what I’m thinking, it just makes more sense for it to be T1. Lol thank you, it’s definitely a...

She said I wasn’t producing much insulin from the test but I have no idea what that test is lol

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Wow 9 years that’s an insane amount of time! I’m so sorry you had to go without answers for so long. The consultant said 3 years of monitoring and tests to hopefully get a proper answer as it’s in the early stages but depending on what the metformin does it could be less time, we shall see...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Yea they said that at the hospital that it was safer to be on insulin until a diagnosis than not be on it and it turns out to be T1. The consultant has basically just said to see what the metformin does alongside the insulin. The most annoying thing is I was told by the nurse that it’s T1, my...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Aww thank you that’s kind of you to say, it’s certainly not helping but I’m trying to stay positive [emoji5] Oh bless you, how did you find out you have diabetes? I always thought you had to be a child to get T1 but apparently not. Do you have T2 in your family at all? Thank you for sharing...

Consultant unsure which type despite positive GAD result

Hey, thank you [emoji4] Yes I agree it definitely makes sense towards T1 but she said because I only had 1 positive GAD test instead of 2 or 3 and the family history of T2 on my dads side she just can’t give an answer hence why I’m now on insulin and metformin. It says on my letter she’s a...
