    Insulin in the summer

I agree with Mark and Benito 100%. Having been diabetic for 29 years if I followed every “rule” that the doctors told me I would have lost my mind! I was diagnosed in South Africa where summers are much hotter. For the first 6 months of my diabetes I used something to keep the insulin cool -...

Seeing red - sugar levels 32 -hypo

Firstly, if your father is 70, T1 diabetic and in good health there is a lot to cheer about. Well done! I think @Karenhopes4 nailed it - the real lesson here is that when you start feeling hypo you cannot delay treating it. I know that I can also get aggressive when in the hypo “no mans land”...

Judge rules doctors should treat teen with type 1 diabetes who wants to die

This is nuts. In a different thread, Clare expressed: "Not long after I was diagnosed at the age of 15 I refused to take my injections a number of times. My brother's used to sit on me while my mum injected me in the bottom or leg. I'm glad they did. I am soon to be 51, have a wonderful life...

    Midwifery and diabetes

There are many T1s who successfully work shifts - just got to be even more diligent about testing and maintaining control. If you choose to do it I am sure you will be able to find a way to do it. Definitely thing CGM could help. Go for it!

HBa1c result came back - totally deflated

I know I stand to be corrected, but I thought HbA1c covered about a 12 week period. If this is true then to go from 7.8 to 7.4 in 6 weeks means you are well on track to get towards 7.0 Keep the faith and keep up the good work!

Anyone With Type 1 And No Complications

T1 diabetes for 27 years (on insulin) with no diabetes related complications (a few sports injuries, but none can be blamed on diabetes!) Learned a lot about controlling my diabetes when I did a few marathons and iron man triathlons - but if you want to see someone really “hit the wall”, try...

Husband Prescribed Wrong Insulin, V Worried & Confused

Lots of good advice above. In theory I agree that pre-filled pens are not as environmentally friendly as cartridges, but pre-filled pens can be more easily left around as a back up than cartridges (for in the event you leave your pen somewhere, eg at home). You just need to make sure that you...

I accidentally treated hypo with a sugar free drink...

Hi! Quick share that I would love to get some feedback on... I had a hypo this evening and accidentally took a sugar free drink to help raise my sugar levels. I would have expected this to result in disaster, however it appears as though something in the drink (caffeine?) was enough of a...

    Honeymooning and having hypos

@Bigkt1981 - I know what I am about to say could be controversial, but: 1. take a big, deep breath and relax. 2. As any driver the licensing authorities are more concerned with hypos than high sugar levels. If your livelihood depends on it then it may be more practical to start with too little...

    Help with running

Alhubb, Great news that you are running! I have been fortunate enough to complete a number of ironmans and marathons with diabetes. The minute I started training regularly with any high mileage my overall insulin requirements decreased (both basal and bolus). I would definitely recommend that...
