t2 diagnosed 10 years ago. Followed DN dietary advice for 8 years just led to higher levels and increased meds. 15 months ago switched to LCHF. Hba1c down from 96 to 33. Feeling great. I have a very long way to go to get to my target weight but that will come in time.
Thank you again. I feel I should know more by now but the whole carbs/ sugars thing confounds me so I just go for the total carbs to be on the safe side. Thanks so much for your responses.
Thanks Rachox. Do you know what the significance of that figure is? I wonder why they put it on the front instead of the carb count (which would obviously be more useful).
Hi @Robbity and @Mr_Pot. At the risk of sounding daft can you explain the ‘of which sugars’ part to me. I recently bought something that had 0.2g sugar on the front of the label but 9g total carbs on the back... what should I be counting?
The best response to this study that I have read so far is by Campbell Murdoch on Twitter. I quote “The epidemiological study published in the Lancet is like saying "We looked at what the best speed is to join a motorway and concluded from studying 15,000 cars it's 65mph. 60mph or 70mph...
I’m lucky, my own GP is happy with LCHF and admits that dietary advisors need to be more enlightened. I read Dr Unwins comments on this report and liked the fact that they were well considered and objective The report in the OP is clearly flawed.
I liked the original rolls from lidl ( the triangular ones, I’m sure most of you will know the ones I mean) I didn’t spike with those at all, but I had the same problems with the low GI rolls. Took 4 hours to get my bg back to normal.
Hi folks. Just from my personal experience: There is a trend towards ‘light’ tonics, eg fevertree and now Schweppes. These are not the same as slimline or diet tonics. I always ask to see the bottle. Lights can have up to 8g of carbs per bottle and I get quite large bg spikes. Britvic...
Thank you Brunneria. That is what I needed to know. I have been T2 for about 10 years but having followed the advice of my DN and ever increasing BG levels followed by increasing medication I just wanted to try and gain some control and LC seems to be the way forward. It’s very early days...
I am sure this must be covered on the forum somewhere but I’ve been unable to find it. I am relatively new to the low-carb lifestyle and I’m struggling to understand the nutritional information on labels. Do I count the carbs or the ‘of which sugars’ value? Is there an idiots guide...
