Hi all
I have had type 1 diabetes since 13 and now have a 2 year old. She isn’t showing signs of diabetes but I am mega paranoid all the time. She drinks a lot of water and urinates a lot but no more than her friends so I think this is normal in toddlers (she’s not potty trained).
Those of...
Amazing news! I'm about 5 months pregnant now and had the same questions. Take insulin 15-20 mins before a meal. I also take extra insulin when I eat to stop the post-meal spikes which means I need to snack 10-15g of carb about 1-2 hours after a meal as well. I found breakfast tricky as it is a...
Hi @Lynz84. Not sensitive at all! I know it's difficult with in laws to say what you're feeling. It's not quite the same but I have a couple of friends who used to freak out when I did my injections because they don't like needles. I just said to them - try having to inject yourself multiple...
Hi @Lynz84.
It's good that you're thinking of all this in advance. I'm type 1 and currently 21 weeks pregnant. My A1c was 7.4 when I found out I was pregnant and I got it down to 6.1 within 5 weeks. The hospital have really helped me to control the diabetes and I see them every 2 weeks.
It's...
Ahh! A boy! That's so exciting! We're going to find out at 21 week scan! I can't wait til the birth to know! So sorry to hear about your other health conditions causing trouble. Seems like you're doing a great job. Just hit 17 weeks today so I'm a week behind you. All going ok so far! Keep going!!
It's really brave of you to talk about all of this. I think you've done the right thing and taken a step in the right direction by writing on the forum.
As many others have, I've been where you are. There was a time when I just wanted to be normal and eat and drink what I wanted with my...
Hi @Lozj82
Just thought I'd check in and see how you're doing.
Also I just realised that we were speaking pre-pregnancy about what hba1c to aim for and our ticking biological clocks!
Managed to get down to 6.1 now which I'm so pleased with but now need to keep it there!
Hope you're doing...
Hi @Loulou52. I've been posting on another page 'freaking out about positive result' which you're welcome to come chat on! A couple of us there are due August/September. I'm just 12 weeks and see my team every 2 weeks. I actually transferred from Lewisham hospital to kings college hospital as...
Hi Jane. I remember going on holiday when I was first diagnosed at 13. It's a scary time but just make sure you prepare hypo treatments etc and you'll still have a great time!
I'm not sure where you're based but I upgraded my bank account to one which includes travel insurance. I found a lot of...
Hi @Amy.W. I had to pay for the Dexcom myself as couldn't get one on the nhs. I spent about £1700 for the transmitter, receiver and 6 months' worth of sensors. It is expensive but I feel it's been worth it as it beeps in the night if I got above or below the target I set. It means I wake up...
Hi @Lozj82! How is it all going? I'm struggling with post-meal hypos but we seem to be on the same hba1c track - mine is down to 6.4% also which I'm so pleased with. I'm on the Dexcom and an omnipod and it's really helping. Fingers crossed we can keep up the good work! x x
@Lozj82 - I'm already on a pump which I absolutely love. Went on it about 18 months ago as get bad dawn phenomenon. I used to go to bed at 7mmol and wake up at 17! Now I wake up about 5-6!
My trouble is the 1 hour post-meal. It shoots up to about 12. If I hit the target of about 7 then I'll be...
