Hi,
I am a type 2 diabetic and have been for some years now. As well as metformin, gliclazide and a byetta pen my doctor has also prescribed gabapentin to help with the pain of neuropathy in my feet. Having joined this forum about a month ago and going on a low carb diet my bg readings have...
I've been low carbing for about 4 weeks now and my fasting reading has come down from double figures (14/15) to single figures. It was 8.0 this morning and 7.1 yesterday morning. So yes it's working :D

The reason he gives is to do with the chemical make up of the drinks not the effect on bg readings. Like a lot of doctors he doesn't like artificial sweeteners but then everything in moderation. I always have diet tonic in my g&t :)

Having just read Dr Briffa'a latest book I can say that he recommends the following:
Leafy green vegetables - eat freely
Root vegetables (other than potatoes) - eat in moderation
Fruit including berries - eat freely
Exotic fruit including bananas, mango and melon - eat sparingly (something...
I recently had my eyes checked at Guys and for the first time, some damage was seen but nothing to warrant immediate treatment and I will be called back in 12 months. I have neuropathy in my feet for some years now and have been prescribed gabapentin to help this. My feet are not totally numb...
Been on a low carb diet for about 2 weeks now. Have cut out bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and pastry. Bg levels have dropped dramatically and I have enjoyed a modest weight loss of about 4 lbs without being hungry. I cannot say that I don't miss potatoes and pasta because I do but I'm really...
Hi Sugarlump,
The problem is that the test strips are expensive. Some while back I purchased an Accu Check compact from Boots which cost me approx £15 which is quite clearly subsidised. Accu Check make their profits from the strips. My own doctor is prepared to prescribe 51 strips every 2...
They are tasteless but I think the key is getting the seasoning right. Sauces, apparently, don't stick to the noodles but the seasoning does. I'm going to try something fairly powerful, chilis or maybe jerk seasoning :D This should make a good side dish.

Well I tried them for the first time today. Slightly modified to include soya fibre and wholemeal flour but still only 4 carbs per packet unless you add the supplied chili sauce which has a 'little' sugar in it. I dry roasted them in a hot non stick pan for about 5 minutes and added a small tin...
Well had my review this morning with some impressive bg figures to show the nurse. Only been on the low carb regime for less than a week but my figures have shown a marked drop since I started. Told Cathy about the radio 4 interview with Dr Biffra which prompted me to join this forum and said I...
Thank you Sweetlea for the recommendation. What an amazing site :D I think I would enjoy all of those recipes even if I weren't on a low carb diet!!
