Should I get a pump or should I not?

Hey blueflower! I wear the Animas Vibe pump, and it has changed my life with diabetes! There are things that you can do with a pump (extended/combo bolus) that you cannot with injections, which makes things like pizza much easier. The six to eight sub cut injections a day, predominantly in...

    Insulin pumps

I've been pumping with the Animas Vibe since Sept 15! I love it to bits! It is waterproof, so I have been swimming with it on, I disconnect for a bath just because I like a hot bath, but hot insulin isn't good. I wear my pump on the outside, clipped on a pocket or similar, and in a pouch...

has anybody gone from meds to insulin

Hi, I too was originally diagnosed as T2, and on Metformin, Gliclizide etc, however a GAD antibody test earlier this year confirmed T1/1.5, so now I take basal/bolus insulin. Much better control! :) Bob

Nightclub took testing kit off me

Rather than DDA or Equality, I would be examining Reckless Endangerment laws! That is completely uncalled for, and bizarre, that they would take your testing kit! Also, having removed it from your presence, where is their assurance or proof that it has not been tampered with? They should be...

    Best food for hiking

Hi Suehat, Do you carb count? With the additional exercise from your trip, you could look at complex carbs, which are a slower release, such as wholemeal bread or pasta, root veg, pulses and banana's to name but a few! What do you use to reverse a hypo? Something like Glucotabs are good, at 4g...

    Reusing needles

As previously said, reusing lancets could contaminate next test! Reusing needles is not something the NHS do, they are designed to be single use! By reusing needles, you might save the NHS about £15 a year, but if you get an infection and admitted, at £3500 per night, it's a no brainer! :) Bob

    When do you inject?

I count carbs then inject! We generally eat out once a week, in restaurants I count each course and inject for each, again afterwards! I sometimes get it wrong, but then it's not a precise science! :) Bob

    Had enough. help?

Hi Charlotte, I kinda know where you are at, I was diagnosed late in life, and had gotten used to certain eating habits. All that had to change! Initially, I regained some weight, ( having lost 3stone pre diagnosis ), but low carb, carb counting and reasonable exercise is holding that back! It...

Hi Daniel, Welcome! First off, to your 'pinch an inch' situation, what size needles are you using? I use 4mm needles and don't need to pinch skin up! :) Bob

Has any insulin pump user seen the view from the Shard?

Hi, I'm not a pump user (yet), but I would assume the electromagnetic scanner is similar to those used in shops and supermarkets, and so is unlikely to damage your pump! It would definitely be wise to explain pump to the security people, even show them if possible! High speed lifts, in my...
