    Is there anything available

My mum is partialy sighted and insulin dependant, she has a tendancy to 'bend' the needles on her Novopen, I was wondering if anybody knew of either a sheath or product that may help her keep pen upright or stop her bending the pen when it is inserted, she is nearly 70 and still wants to be as...

    Insulin went in today

As laura (pumppimp) says, contact dsn about your basal rate, I went live on insulin yesterday, had a hypo last night, so my dsn reduced my 00.00-06.00 rate by 0.1, we will see how that goes...I'm surprised how easy it was to change,I feel like I've had the thing for years.... it was great...

Depression caused by Diabetes or "normal depression"?

I dont personally think diabeties 'causes' deppression, I feel that if you have diabeties, you are more likley to be affected by (rather than 'suffer' from) deppression, I've had type1 since I was 18, and I'm 42 now, over the years my control has been far from perfect, but, I've been...

the_exile, are you being seen by Dr Casey? I was going through the program, but failed to reach weight required, the whole team @ ERI, seem to be very good, hope things go ok for you, I should hopefully be going back through the process later this year...good luck with it fella. Bob

    Why would a hospital lie

+1 for getting a copy of all correspondance, between hospital and gp, past experience has shown that sometimes they do get it wrong.... Bob

    rant- sorry in advance

Ahh, that was never explained to me......I would never dream/think, to double the correction dose, but I have noticed that when 'off the chart' high, it does take longer than usual to come down, I just put that down to the sugars being higher than I accounted for (my meter reads to 33mmol) you...

    rant- sorry in advance

just to clarify what I posted before, the 1 for 1 ratio is what I personally use as a correction dose, as worked out by my DSN, that was not my mealtime dose, sorry if that caused any confusion........... Bob

    Diabetes & Benefits

And the CAB can help you with the bills, they can write to your creditors (if you have any) and arrange smaller repayment (much the same as the debt companies do but without the fees they charge you), as the old saying goes 'a shy bairn gets nowt', also try councils trading standards dept as...

    rant- sorry in advance

personally I use 1 unit of novorapid to drop blood by 1 full point of blood, as a correction, and correct to 9mmol, that gives you a bit of leeway, i.e if your sugars are 22, then I'd take 13, and if you have to take a large 'hit' you really need to take extra tests just to keep an eye, always...

    Newbie to the forum.

I used to bee on glargine insulin untill 3 years ago, I'm now on levemir 2x a day and novorapid @ meal times, the glargine was a nightmare I put on over 4 stone, and after many arguements with my consultant team, out of the blue they changed it to levemir no explanation, when I collared them...

    Changed to Levemir

Good luck with it, hope it all goes well, I'm not sure what your Diabeties team is like, but if your having probd, give the liason nurse a bell, I'm quite lucky as I'm near to local hosp, so I'm in the hospital clinic, so theres always someone available during the day, if I need advice, if...

    Changed to Levemir

I'vebeen on levemir for about 7 years, it is a bit of trial and error to start with, but I'm on Novorapid as well, wich is quite 'spikey' in its delivery. When doin my conversion, I concentrated in getting nightime levels right 1st, as there are alot of variables throuhout the day, try eating...

Type 1, with depression taking Mirtazapine

I was on that but didnt get on with it at all, the main problem for me was the effect on my sugars, they constantly run high , really high, with no change to diet or excersise, and they had me going about like a 'half shut knife'.... reall no good that was after 8 weeks I said to the doc to put...
