I have been a reasonably well controlled type 1 Diabetic for 45 years since the age of 11. My HbA1c has always been below 7 although I know it will be rising lately. I am also lucky enough not to have any complications apart from a bit of neuropathy in my left foot. I have never had Hyperglycimia and have not had a serious Hypo for years. Unfortunatly however my control is being effected by my new job.
After 27 years in the Textile industry I now work and have done for 2 years, as a Nursing Assistant in the Macula Treatment Centre in the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, where we treat, amongst others, many complications relating to poor Diabetic control.
I have been in a Civil Partnership for 8 years and have been with my partner Jonathan for 20 years. Jonathan is a matron, band 8, at the same hospital, although our working days do not bring us into contact witheach other, very much.
