i don't really know where to go from here...

Simplest thing is to remember it isn't all about sugar it is also about carbs. Keep them down and the levels will come down and your weight will too if it needs to. Don't buy diabetic ice-cream and stuff as it is expensive and has more carbs that ordinary stuff in the formof sorbitol which is...

Hi- don't panic - we are all here to help you. You should have seen a consultant to decide on the regime of drugs best for you. Try to keep carbs down, it isn't all about sugar. If you can get something sorted out, keeping the carbs down is a very good way to go. My hair fell out too when I...

Am I having side effects of metformin?

Hi - I had lots of those symptoms, but the aches and pains in my joints, I found that I had to take B12 for. The metformin eats B12 and once I got the level up to around 1000, which took a couple of weeks, they all went away. I had had frozen shoulders for ages and this really helped me. I...

New to low carbs..tried & failed! Help!

Hi - way way less than that - I go for 65g max. All in the morning when they can get burnt off and you don't really need any. You will burn off your fat and be lower too. You must read the carbs on everything. No dark chocolate - loads of salad and veg and meat and cheese like in Atkins - I...

    Appointments and Employers

I think you should check the Disabilities Act as they cannot stop you going or penalize you in any way, and you should get the nurse to make your appointments so you lose the least money if they decide to get funny with you. Do you have a Union? Mine were amazing in helping me sort this sort...

    Tattoo yes or no ?

I had a tatoo done on my stomach last year. I have diabetes as I had pancreatitis and lost part of my pancreas andthe scar on my stomach constantly reminded me of how ill I had been, so last year I thought 'enough is enough' and got it covered up - looks exactly like the zip on the Tesco bags of...

    Sugars and Carbohydrates

Get the book Carbs and Cals from Amazon and worry about the carbohydrates you are taking. I was told to have lots of carbs when Iwas first diagnosed, by the diabetic nurse, and this never made any sense to me so I was over the moon ot find I can get away with eating meals with no carbs, not...

    Low sugar yoghurts

full fat greek yoghurt and add fruit. Any with low sugar will have sweetners. If you are poorly at the moment and it is your levels, count the carbs and get the level down without extra insulin. That always makes me feel awful.

    Insensitive Boss! :(

You have rights under the equalities act and bullying should not be tolerated. Report it. We have what we call a 'red card' where I work and we say this: Regrettably I find myself unreceptive to your chosen method of communication and would respectfully ask that you speak to me as an equal and...

    Carbs or Cals

If you keep the carbs down you will lose weight. I did Atkins for ages, still do and if I counted the calories you would have a heart attack, but none of them are carbs, so the weight stays off.

    To artificial sweeten or not

Never with the artificial sweetners. They tellyour liver to expect sugar and they mess with the endocrin system - that is your pancreas etc. you are better off counting the carbs and having a little real sugar. Please carbcount and adjust your insulin accordingly. Don't have coke or pepsi with...

    Diabetes and employment

Hi - I had issues at work and I, through my union representative, asked for reduced hours and they did me a 4 day week. I also asked for a different job as the one I was doing gave me hypos every night and it was unacceptable when they suggested I ran my levels higher, as this mean that I was...

    high fibre breakfast

none of the cereals are any good carbs wise, so I avoid and have low carb bread and eggs. Keeps me going for endless hours and I don't put weight on, also it only needs 3ml insulin for me. Less insuling = good - not hungry = good. Love it. Cereals put my levels right up, then I run out very...

    .

Hi - that isn't too bad - bananas are around 65g of carbs for a good sized one. I would only need 3ml of insulin for that pear. Worth it.
