    Covid and type 1

Unfortunately not. I was diagnosed in Spain. So I missed out on the majority of the basic training. I fundamentally learnt how to manage my diabetes by reading as much information as I could find.

    Covid and type 1

That’s the dilemma! I’m normally low fat wholefood. Which is very high carbs. I’ll switch out to higher fat and lower carb. Thank you.

    Life assurance

I managed to get life insurance fine. The challenge is you won’t get critical illness cover. It depends on which you want.

    Covid and type 1

I am in the latter stages of my first bout of Covid. I only developed type 1 5 years ago so I’m still learning. I’m finding insulin is currently about as affective as water. I’m taking more than 3 times my usual amount. Is this normal? I threw away the last lot of insulin assuming it had stopped...

Honeymoon ending suddenly or something else?

That’s interesting. I’ll have a look at other posts for Fiasp. Thanks!

Honeymoon ending suddenly or something else?

Thanks Ellie. I tried all 3 numbers on my diabetes team. All lead to answer messages giving out the other numbers and instruction not to leave a message. Which is not overly helpful. I can try and recalculate my ratios. They seem to be all over the place. It's been happening on and off for about...

Honeymoon ending suddenly or something else?

Hey diabuddies. I was diagnosed as type 1 with a high GAD reading 3 years ago. After a few months of managing with exercise and diet I moved onto insulin usage. That's stayed relatively stable with a slight increase of requirements. I was taking 12 units of basal and around 10 to 15 units of...

    Humiliation at Manchester airport

T1 diabetics are 1 in 200, or 0.5%. You're right, T2's are increasing in number. Unfortunately lifestyle and diet is a huge challenge in modern society. You'd expect someone with a family member as a diabetic would be more considerate.

    Closed loop systems

I don't think there's a faster acting insulin than Fiasp is there? I have read a few articles and there are closed loop systems designed by T1s. Apps developed by T1s to allow the pump and sensor to regulate. Any thoughts?

    Humiliation at Manchester airport

I didn't know about the xray machines!!! I'll take mine in my hand when I fly on Friday. So much to think about. I'm going for a month so I am carrying 4 spare sensors with me.

    Humiliation at Manchester airport

Every time I've had a problem the staff has tried to tell me their mother has diabetes and so they know all about it. They are obviously lying!

    Humiliation at Manchester airport

Sorry the notifications don't get to me. It's very humiliating. I'm sorry you've experienced the same. I fly all the time and Manchester is by far the most horrendous. I now carry a letter from my endo explaining I can't go through the sensors.

    Newly diagnosed Vegan diabetic

This is a massively delayed thank you! I had some up and downs and it turned out I'm type 1. My GAD levels were off the chart when they tested. My pancreas is a has been! I did look at mastering diabetes and it worked really well for me! I do now have some junky snacks and some wildly varied...

    Closed loop systems

The UK hybrid loop system looks to be released generally at some point. However it needs a lot of manual input. Can anyone suggest a DIY true closed loop system that preferably ties in the Libre 2 and omnipod together? I understand there are no approved systems and nothing in the US approved by...

    Humiliation at Manchester airport

I’ve had 2 horrible experiences with security at Manchester airport. Both trips I have explained I have a diabetic sensor and can’t use the scanners. The first time the border guard was abusive and rude. Told me I couldn’t use diabetes as an excuse. I wasn’t sure what excuse I was using it for...
