    Fiasp experiences

I have been on Fiasp for about 3 months and it is significantly quicker than all the others. I was on Humalog since it was introduced, tried Novorapid but it didn't suit me at all and have been on Apidra for the last few years. I use a pump. On Apidra I would take my bolus as soon as I got...

    Travel Insurance Grrrrrr!!!

I have just had a very unsatisfactory conversation with my traevl insuracne company on trying to renew my policy. The emdical screening questions were so poor that it was almost impossible to answer any of them. By way of background, I attend my local hosiptal for diabetes care (never my GP or...

    Picking my first pump

I have a Veo (my second pump, first one was an Accu Chek Spirit (not Combo)). I have written a pretty comprehensive review before, can't link from posting on my phone, but if you look at my profile, you should be able to find it easily. ps I do like the Veo, has both pros & cons tho, as I...

    Exercise & Diabetes

I guess it depends which Lucozade you drink. Lucozade Sport has 32g carb per 500ml bottle (I just checked). I use it as it's easy to leave by the side of the pool. I could make my own sugar water, but that would taste worse than Lucozade.

    the sun???

You could purchase a Frio case, you soak the inner case in water & gel crystals expand, put it in the outer case & the evaporation keeps the pump at a reasonable temperature. They're ok, but the one I have has to be looped onto a belt, so is not the most practical item. I have only used it when...

    Insulin Pumps

Pumps are not an easy option! I resisted having one for a long time and am now settled on it, but it takes effort. It has been a long & difficult journey for me to get where I am & I've still a way to go to get where I want to be (and where the doctors want me) with the pump, but it has brought...

    Waistband?

All the companies do accessories. Everything I've bought seems to be priced around £15 none of them covered by the NHS. Check out the various websites, though cases for pumps are usually brand specific, things like waistband & pouches are pretty generic It might sound odd, but Accu-Chek do a bra...

    Exercise & Diabetes

Personally, I eat a banana & top up with lucozade if I think that I need more carb. I swim 2km/40 mins & need around 40 grammes of carb to deal with that. I am on a pump & also reduce my basal rates by 10% for 24 hours afterwards to prevent hypos while my liver replaces its glycogen stores. Talk...

Drinking advice for Type 1 Newbie

My consultant once said to me, have a bag of crisps with your drink (not every drink lol) and either have a glass of water with each drink or have a non-alcoholic drink between each alcoholic one. Kills two birds with one stone; a naughty treat & a naughty drink! One or two spirits shouldn't...

    Exercise and BG

Also look at Diabetes.com a US website with a very good section on exercise, carb replacement & insulin reduction. It's in the diabetes management section of the website, they call it ExCarbs. This has helped me work out how much carb I use during exercise & taking into account insulin on board...

How do I deal with this?

If you do much less activity during the holidays it will have an effect. Perhaps you walk to school, or to & from the bus stop? You do PE? Walk to the shops at lunch time? All of these things work together to increase your metabolic rate. If you don't do these in the holidays, your metabolic...

    new member askin about pumps

I've been on the pump for nearly 3 years now. I refused to entertain the idea for a long time as I believed that there'd be a lot I couldn't do (watersports) & clothes that I couldn't wear. I wouldn't give it back now though. It's been by no means plain sailing & still isn't, but my control is...

T1 diabetes and drinking = a death sentence?

Unfortunately Bacardi Breezers & Crabbies Ginger Beer are out, but there is no reason at all why you shouldn't enjoy a drink or three. I wasn't diagnosed until aged 26 and I can say that a hangover with diabetes is far far worse than one without. Therefore I have learnt my limits. I was never...

Bit of an update and a question on Medtronic silhouettes

Can't say that I've ever noticed more or less cannula showing. I am a Silhouette advocate, used them for 2 1/2 years (or Tenderlinks the Accu Chek equivalent) and never had a set failure. Used a quickest twice & had a failure! Just keep an eye on your BGs, if they seem unusually high, change it...
