I can't sing the praises enough of carb counting and finally paying attention to diet. There have been the obvious benefits of considerable but controlled weight loss, reducing blood sugar as well as spin offs in reducing blood pressure and cholesterol. I would also recommend anybody starting out on this journey to take up the trial offers of a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor, they don't hurt and simply hook up to most smartphones) to get a visual indication of what you are eating and how it affects your blood sugar personally. I found that even foods some find good for low blood sugar may not always be the same for me. We are all different when it comes to diabetes and the trick seems to be experiment and find what works for you. There are some good tips here and articles as well as many others struggling with same challenges. I have found it good company to be in.
