    Surgery & Type 1

Thanks Tony It'll be a general but like you i haven't been in touch with the diabetes team for a long time so I handle MDI by myself. I'll see if I can get them to talk to me (they've twice told me I've discharged myself from their care which is nonsense, so I gave up. They weren't much use with...

    Surgery & Type 1

I may need surgery in the next month or so - possibly in/out in 1 day but that's still being discussed. The team doing the surgery are in a separate hospital to my diabetes team. Any pointers from people who have managed their T1d through surgery? I'm very sensitive to cortisol so even the...

    Long working short-acting insulin

Happens to me. Novorapid has a bit of a spike at about 5 hours i find. I also proved it by living on lettuce & Tresiba only for a day, but DN convinced it should be out of my system. Its worse if I've been sat at a desk. Almost as if it sits in my fat and waits for me to start moving hours...

    I’m totally lost

Which background insulin is he on? I could never get Lantus to behave but Tresiba less of an issue overnight. My blood sugar generally rises a couple of hours after I go to bed but lowers by dawn - I never realised until I got the libre. What time is his final meal?

    Jury service

T1 was indeed not a valid reason for exemption - unfortunately! The central office for jury service weren't hugely helpful, but did make sure my special requirements (ie my phone is a medical device) were made known to the crown court i was summoned to. Normal protocol is that the phone is on...

    Jury service

I'm not hugely bothered by doing it - I'll just have 2 weeks worth of work to catch up on when I get back so it will be a total PITA to be honest. I get needing to do our civic duty etc but we're a small company so no one else will do my job! So far my emails seem to have vanished into a black...

    Jury service

Yup - read that & can't see anything about phones as medical devices. I've told them on the initial forms but had zero constructive input back.

    Jury service

Has anyone been called up recently? Obviously my phone tells me my BG and I've asked the question, but had nothing useful in response, about how that works during a case. Hypos aren't going to be my problem but rapidly elevating BG levels will be - I'm very sensitive to stress / cortisol. My...

Are more people getting Type 1 in their late twenties and early thirties?

43 for me. I was a text book case of type 1 but because of my age my GP surgery insisted I must be type 2 - nearly killed me taking that approach. A&E were furious when I finally turned up with a Hba1C of 148 and sky high ketones. I was only 9 stone before the rapid onset weight loss. I was...

Why Is My Blood Sugar Rising In The Afternoon/evening For No Obvious Reason

I have to take a correction unit mid afternoon. Can't increase background or I go low overnight.

Predictions when almost everything is unpredictable.

OP I'm another whose body hasn't read the rule book and I react to food very, very quickly. Although if I inject insulin too early you can guarantee that'll be a day when I'm having jelly babies pre dinner. I also have a very active job 4 days a week and a sedentary one on the other 3. I feel...

    Hypos during the night

    no, unlikely!!

    Hypos during the night

How old is your wife? Hormones can really affect blood sugar levels.

    Locum Trouble

Definitely report them - that's shocking. Can you get a blood test organised with one of the nurses? They can check out your circulation at the same time.

What was your diagnosis experience like?

An ex-colleague recently told me she'd been to the walk in clinic twice with her young son who was a text book case of type 1 only to be told he had a virus. Thankfully in the end she followed her intuition and took him to A&E. So still problems in 2024 with Drs recognising type 1
