Are more people getting Type 1 in their late twenties and early thirties?

43 for me. I was a text book case of type 1 but because of my age my GP surgery insisted I must be type 2 - nearly killed me taking that approach. A&E were furious when I finally turned up with a Hba1C of 148 and sky high ketones. I was only 9 stone before the rapid onset weight loss. I was...

Why Is My Blood Sugar Rising In The Afternoon/evening For No Obvious Reason

I have to take a correction unit mid afternoon. Can't increase background or I go low overnight.

Predictions when almost everything is unpredictable.

OP I'm another whose body hasn't read the rule book and I react to food very, very quickly. Although if I inject insulin too early you can guarantee that'll be a day when I'm having jelly babies pre dinner. I also have a very active job 4 days a week and a sedentary one on the other 3. I feel...

    Hypos during the night

How old is your wife? Hormones can really affect blood sugar levels.

    Locum Trouble

Definitely report them - that's shocking. Can you get a blood test organised with one of the nurses? They can check out your circulation at the same time.

What was your diagnosis experience like?

An ex-colleague recently told me she'd been to the walk in clinic twice with her young son who was a text book case of type 1 only to be told he had a virus. Thankfully in the end she followed her intuition and took him to A&E. So still problems in 2024 with Drs recognising type 1

What was your diagnosis experience like?

In my early 40s, it was summer so drinking a lot seemed fine (& then obviously needing the toilet a lot because I was drinking a lot). I also started losing weight and I didn't really have much to lose - so having more sugary stuff to help the weight gain. My friend had been away for a couple of...

    Virtual GP appointment misdiagnosed me

Many, many years ago I was convinced I'd had an odd allergic reaction to a shower gel. Back then you could only see a GP in person. He took a look and instantly diagnosed shingles - I doubt I'd have got that response from an online consultation even if I'd bothered to try and navigate the system.

Is anyone else EXHAUSTED by this disease??

CGM has helped no end but yes, it's exhausting. The CGM told me my blood sugars were spiking into the high teens overnight while I was asleep. So I'd go to bed on 7/8 and wake up on 7/8 and just feel shattered. Now I know this rise happens I'll take 1/2 unit before bed & it has really helped...

    Faulty Tresiba vial

A cracked one yes - whole packet had been dropped I think so I binned them.

    GETTING WORRIED NOW!!

Hypos are a part of having type 1 diabetes I'm afraid! Just keep some glucose tablets or haribos with you and if you drop below 4 have a couple. It is completely possible to have the same meal two days in a row with the same insulin dosage and your body react differently. Hormones, exercise...

    Tresiba Low

I can't quite remember the details but when I was first prescribed tresiba my nurse warned me it came in two strengths and to make sure I was given the right one. 7 years on I am clueless as to what the right one is and just assume I'm given it every time - any chance your pens are a stronger...

Libre2 Skin Damage Over Time a Concern

I think if you can use both arms then it's possible to give areas quite a long break from the libre - just make sure you don't stick in the same area it was last time I prefer any damage on my arm to the state my fingers were getting in

Grocery List for Low Carb Snacks & Food

It's quite hard work. My levels go through the roof in the middle of the day if I eat carbs but plummet at about 4 if I have insulin on board so low carb lunches help. Making your own helps but otherwise cheese, slices of ham, nuts (some of the nut based protein bars are ok), eggs, chicken legs.
