I got diabetic remission from a zero-30g low carb diet for a few years, but then my blood sugar spiked without reason, and it turns out that I've had 28 symptoms of Cushing's Disease (some blatantly obvious) for about the last 32 years (since I fractured my skull when I was 10).
I'd never heard of Cushing's until I changed doctors, and my new doctor wanted to test my cortisol levels.
So it turns out that my diabetes isn't diet related. It's a symptom of a brain tumour. For a Cushing's patient, I'm about 4 stone underweight, but that's a stone overweight for normal people. Basically, I don't eat very much, but I look massive, and I'm lighter than I look because my legs are like sticks. If your body shape is like Mrs Potato Head, then you might want to ask your doctor about testing your cortisol levels.
Ideally, I'd have brain surgery on the tumour, but I don't know if I'm going to live long enough to go to my appointment. The doctors are all: "Cushing's takes years to kill you." I can't help but wonder if that's more or less than 32 years since I've been diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy and liver disease (I don't drink) in the last month!
Cushing's sucks. Ten year old me wants her 30 years back! However, I would be happy with surviving this with my eyesight, liver and brain still intact.
