My name is Connor,
Im currently 20 years old. I was diagnosed with Type one diabetes at the age of 13 which was a complete change of life for me. I had to learn to take insulin injections and test my blood in public and school when at the time was very embarrassing. Due to the embarrassment after a year or so I decided to try out the insulin pump but with playing football every weekend I found this was not for me. I have now had this condition for 7 years which has been a bumpy road for me suffering severely with anxiety and depression but im glad to say after a long journey I think ive finally over come that. 2 weeks ago on the 14th August 2018 I was rushed into hospital with DKA after my blood sugars being 69. I was in a diabetic coma and in hospital for 2 weeks. Something I do not wish to repeat. It was totally my fault after not taking my insulin but this experience has been a real eye opener onto that I really do need to look after myself. Ive joined this page to give advice to anyone who is struggling or feeling down or just needing a chat on any information on diabetes as it may feel hard but really its not. It scared me a lot what ive been through and don't want anyone to go through what I did as it didn't only just affect me also my family too.
Anyone who needs a chat im happy to help
Connor.
