    Gutted

You're at the recommended level after 2 hours. As Denise has suggested, see what it's like after 3 hours. And I'm sorry if this annoys others but, it's 7.8. It's not the end of the world. If you enjoyed it, there really isn't a problem in treating yourself once in a while - and there's...

    Struggling to adjust

Hi Leanne and welcome. It really isn't easy is it? When I was first diagnosed I found this forum hoping for some sound advice, and can remember leaving it two hours later feeling more confused than when I first arrived. The amount of information and discussion about various 'diets' is simply...

    type 1 and gliclazide

That's why they stopped me having it and put me on HumulinM3. I'm very doubtful that it is the Gliclazide - unless there has been some misdiagnosis somewhere along the line. I'll be interested in the outcome too. Please keep us updated.

    A bit of a rant...

Bottom line is that you have a RIGHT to be referred to a consultant and/or diabetic clinic regardless of whether you have good control of your blood sugar levels or not. It is in black & white in the Dept of Health's Diabetes National Service Framework. Whilst being in good control of your...

    15-point checklist by Diabetes UK

I don't know about that charity producing the guidelines, but I certainly got given that checklist by my health team last year. It's basically the NHS checklist.

    Which Statin?

When I was first diagnosed diabetic a year ago, my doctor put me on Atorvastatin - "It's the most expensive one, but also the most effective for knocking the bad cholesterol on the head." I'd heard many stories about it causing stiffness and muscle pain, so I delayed taking it for a month...

Don't know whether to get the flu jab

Got my jab yesterday. Arm was a bit achy today, but no problems - other than the nurse hit a vessel and I bled everywhere! Usually when I have my blood tests done I don't even need a plaster to cover the needle site. Despite being diabetic I still seem to heal very quickly!

i have bad control my hba1c was 14

Re: i have bad control my hp1ca was 14 What did your nurse have to say? I've found that in addition to carb counting I've had to make allowances for the exercise I also do. Because of your ADHD affecting your organisational skills, I think that getting to grips with testing your glucose levels...

How often do you do it?

I inject twice a day and test 4 times a day. Fresh needle and lancets every time - they're on prescription and I have no limits on my prescription for strips or lancets or needles. As otenba has pointed out, needles are lubricated to help insertion, the more you use them, the less lubricant...

What was your fasting blood glucose number this morning?

Well it's only just my 3rd week on HumulinM3 and I was 8.2 this morning - which I'm more than happy with! Since starting I've been adjusting my doses each week and am seeing it drop by about 1.3 each week. The first week I suffered several hypos and told my nurse I was going to try it MY way and...

    Chocolate???

I can also recommend the Aldi dark chocolate. Recently though, I've been getting Tesco's 74% Ivory Coast dark chocolate. 2 squares every night as a treat - 6.6carbs & 5.4 sugar.

    CARB FREE MEAL

The one thing I've learnt during my short time here is, like fingerprints, no two diabetics are the same! :D I'm inclined to agree that it could be the system thinking "Hang on, we've got food, but no glucagon. Oi, liver, help them out!" Of course the other thing to bear in mind is that the...

How many blood strips do you get a month

Having just converted from T2 to T1 I'm testing like a demon so this month I would expect to get through about 150 ordinary blood strips and probably about 10 Keytones blood test strips. I have no issues getting either of them from my doctor.

i have bad control my hba1c was 14

Re: i have bad control my hp1ca was 14 Firstly, don't beat yourself up over the Hb1Ac result, mine has been all over the place since being diagnosed a year ago. It WILL get better. ADHD and Diabetes is a terrible combination for you to have to deal with, and losing your nan has also clearly...

Don't know whether to get the flu jab

I had both flu (combination flu and swine flu) and pneumonia jabs last year, and had no side effects other than a slightly tender arm. I'll be having this year's flu jab next jab. As others have said, it's free, and in the current economic climate, if the health teams didn't think it was...
