Co-Amoxiclav - has anyone taken this? How did it affect you?

I’ve had it loads of times. It doesn’t affect my BG at all. However if I’m really bad I will be placed on steroids too (for asthma) which then makes insulin seem like tap water.

    Medical retirement

I can completely understand where you are coming from. I am a tube driver doing multiple shifts which can be really hard on mdi. I was at the point where I was going throw it all in due to poor control and feeling like **** all the time! I switched to an insulin pump and now have a early...

    What am I?

Apparently being gad doesn't mean t1 anymore lol. I have had 2 cpep tests done. One near diagnosis and one a couple of months ago. Even the one a couple of months ago was showing massive amounts of insulin being produced more than the endo has ever seen before apparently. Which makes me wonder...

    What am I?

Hi I'm looking for your opinion as the Doctors and nurses I see seem to be erm well actually I won't even go there!! I was diagnosed with diabetes about 9 years ago and placed on insulin virtually straight away. I also take Metrormin with it. No one seems to be able to give me a diagnosis of...

Type 1s: What stupid things have people said to you?

I don't mind ignorant people who come out with stupid remarks as long as they are willing to listen and learn. However it's the ones who know best even though they don't have diabetes and it's because they saw it on the television that it must be true! I've only been a t1 6 years so maybe my...

    Blood sugars

What I meant to say is that Metformin does not directly lower BG. Yes it helps with the lowering of BG but doesn't lower it directly. Metformin allows a diabetic to use the insulin they produce better. For example. You can't go and have a high carb meal and expect to pop a pill and your BG will...

    Blood sugars

I am so pleased David that you read my entire post rather than just quoted one section completely out of context. Maybe in my original post I should have stated metformin doesn't directly lower your BG but makes your cells more receptive to Insulin which your body is already producing. So it...

    Blood glucose testing

Isn't there something in the NICR guidelines about type 2 diabetics being told they should be testing their BG when first diagnosed so that they could learn how to control their disease?

    Blood sugars

Metformin doesn't actually lower your BG all it does it make you less insulin resistant so that your body can use what it has better. Metformin takes quite a while to establish itself. Sometimes up to three months. It's not a quick fix.

Does it get better? Tell me your experience

I eat what I want and just dose adjust to it. It's also about learning what your body can tolerate food wise and adjusting the food and the doses :-) and also realising sometimes it won't be perfect. I ate a jam doughnut at the weekend and fully knew what would happen to my BG but you know what...

Also just wanted to say a big well done for the improvement from the first diary entry to where you are now. It does take some time to get it all to work the way it should and then it will all change again and again but by that time you will be so used to it, it won't even worry you

    Blood glucose testing

I think it's good to check your BG to see how different food can affect your levels so you can learn what works for you and what doesn't.

What BG meter do you use? I use the AccuChek expert which calculates for you and tells you the doses to take. Let's you set different ratios for different times of the day. It logs everything and can show you different trends. Plus most clinics can download it
