I'm new here, wanted to say hello.

I had a similar thing when Mini Deb was first diagnosed - in the hospital bed next to us was a toddler with CF, which made me so glad we just had diabetes to cope with! (Is that him in the pic? He looks a sweetie!)

Hi Susie! I'm the opposite, J&K - IMO the more people who know Mini Deb is diabetic, the safer she is in the event she has a hypo. She's also found that the boy in her class who was always nasty to her is now leaving her alone - every cloud & all that! :)

    Lantus and Hypo's

Mini-Mimi, if it's any help we changed to Levemir instead of Lantus a couple of months ago, you use the same pen as for NovoRapid so you can give half unit doses. However, we found that Mini Deb's levels were all over the shop with Levemir, she was generally much higher and the levels didn't...

    Video games for diabetes?

Thanks for that - I'd previously read about the Magi & Sleeping Star, but saw that it wasn't available yet....it does look good though!

    t1 books

I have "Type 1 Diabetes" by Dr Ragnar Hanas, it was recommended me by someone on here - it's pretty hefty & covers everything you need to know. Our diabetic nurse says she uses it as her bible, so it must be a good 'un! It's a big book, rather than read it cover to cover I dip into it for bite...

Newly diagnosed daughter. What should we expect?

I like your thinking! Luckily she's not much into sweets anyway, and would prefer a shopping trip with her own money!

Newly diagnosed daughter. What should we expect?

Thanks Debloubed! We survived Halloween, so I reckon we can survive anything! :D

Newly diagnosed daughter. What should we expect?

Hi Duggyboy - yes, I have that book and it will be very useful - we're going to a friend's party on Saturday, and it will be a challenge carb counting handfuls of crisps & biscuits! :D

    nursery school.

Hi Mini-M - we send our daughter to school with a few cartons of apple juice, if her sugar level is low she has one of those. TBH, I would have thought your diabetic nurse should have given you written instructions to pass to them, ours did and has visited the school to make sure they are up to...

    Video games for diabetes?

Hi - I'm looking for a video game for my daughter (and son, probably!) I've found Didget, but that as far as I can see is just a glorified glucose meter. Is there something available where you can control a 'virtual' diabetic, making him eat & inject whatever you want and seeing what the results...

mum of 3 year old T1

Hi Mini-Mimi - we always keep a stock of Pepperami, Babybel, marmite cheese, cocktail sausages, cheesestrings & prawns in the fridge - they are all low or no carb, and are good for in between meal snacks. I hope things improve for you soon - it does get easier. We're 5 weeks into diagnosis and...

Lantus v Levemir v anything else?

Thanks for that, I'll ask them about it. :D

Lantus v Levemir v anything else?

Thanks for that, Nigel & Lisa - she doesn't seem to mind the quantity of injections, it's the stinging which is upsetting her so I reckon she'll be OK with it....I'll explain it all to her, and then it can be her decision.

Lantus v Levemir v anything else?

I'll see what the clinic suggest as an alternative - we're not keeping any of the current meds in the fridge, just the unopened packs. It does seem that Levemir would be better - the Lantus seems to be fine other than the stinging, the hypos could well just be due to the honeymoon period....I...
