So I tested this morning and my fasting bg was down 7 points from the time of diagnosis. That's good right?

Wow you've had excellent results in such a short time! And no, I'm definitely NOT focussed enough to join the gym - plus the idea of being the sweating fat lass while the body builders are pumping iron horrifies me. I am going to start walking - but am unlikely to be up as early as you to do so...

Hi all, haven't been on for a couple of days but thought I'd post a quick update. So yesterday I went to see the diabetes nurse at my surgery and discovered 2 things... 1. the doctor who diagnosed me (correctly) shouldn't have put me on metformin so hastily, but she said that now I'm on it I...

Hi Yorksman so we're pretty much in the same boat then. I'm hoping I can get my monitor gizmos on prescription, but if I can't I'll definitely take your advice and shop around

Thanks anew. I've always drunk about 2.5-3 litres of water a day. I think I will have to add more fat to my diet - but I'm nervous about that because I have A LOT of weight to drop.

Thank you so much GranRita, very much appreciated. I'm quite daunted at the moment, there's so much to take in!

Thank you Etty - that was really useful information. I've been tying myself up in knots about breakfast, as it's drummed into us that it's the most important meal of the day etc etc. I like the idea of yoghurt and fruit though. I've added some natural yoghurt and blueberries (which I love and...

Night out at the weekend. How does metformin react with booze? My tipple of choice is usually cider (I'm classy like that haha) can I still drink it?

Why only a small salad? How much salad vegetables should we be eating? I've been taking huge tuna salads for lunch! :?

    Diabetic Friendly take-away

I just wondered what you guys have when you fancy a take-away. I would normally choose chinese but figure with the rice/noodles and amount of sugar they put in the sauces it's a definite nooooo.

I've vastly reduced my carb intake after reading this forum. Lunch and dinner I have a handle on, but I'm really struggling to find low carb breakfasts. I don't have much time in the morning and I simply can't forgo my sleep to get up early enough to make myself scrambled eggs etc, so I've been...

I do think I was a bit hasty buying my accu-chek aviva nano on the day of diagnosis, but I talked to the pharmacist and she said I could get the strips and lancets on prescription... so I'll ask the nurse on Thursday. Just a question about snacks - pepperami's are low carb but high in fat...

You're so right Mongoose. Because I don't drive I tend to do my shopping online, fortunately Asda show all the values. I logged in the other night and booked a slot - they hold the slot for you for 2 hours. By the time I'd completed my shop, having checked all the labels thoroughly my slot had...
