Hello Guys, I am 62 years of age and been a Type 1 Diabetic for 31 years. I was Married for 20 years, had two kids. My son was born a week after I came out of Hospital as a newly diagnosed Diabetic. I recall being a little scared once I had my first Hypo. That scared the **** out of me. However, my Marriage eventually went South and from that moment after being a Diabetic of 10 years, my whole life fell apart. I started drinking really heavy which continued over a period of 5 years and many many hospital stays in that time. In September 1999 I met Claire, my present partner. I carried on with the drinking into the early part of our relationship. Still collapsing, sometimes 3 a week. Then one night i sat and played my guitar of which has been a life long hobby and thought to myself, if I do not get my act together real soon, there will not be any act to address anymore. I have been off the drinking for 10 years now and quite honestly, I wouldn't thank you for any alcohol. It poison's normal healthy people, so what does it do to us as Type 1 Diabetics? I never got out unscathed as I have had my eyes lazered on 3 occasion's in order to halt the bleeding and my feet are always cold and numb. I am very lucky to escape with just that. I saved up the money I would have normally used for my drinking antics and purchased a 27in Apple Mac to make music. I must admit, it has cost me a small fortune to get here and being in my own studio everyday and recording my music is the highest point for me. I am currently on a course for Mixing and Mastering named Musician on a Mission. I have been on this course for 2 years now and have over 50 songs to boast on my Soundcloud. Tracks on Spotify and iTunes also. It has been an eye opener for me going forward. My only wish is that I done this 20 years ago as opposed to being governed by the weekends drinking antics.
