confused re low carb or high carb

Hi Linda, I can totally relate to a lot of the things you’re saying – the sweet tooth, the denial etc. I must admit I sometimes feel a bit of a fraud always banging on about my Type 2 Diabetes. I have a brother who has had T1 Diabetes since he was twelve years old (he’s a little older than me...

    Hello Everyone!

UPDATE: Well, I finally found out the cause of these recurring UTIs... I have kidney stones. The Urologist showed me the image on his computer monitor (from my recent CT scan). There's one in my left kidney which he said can be broken down using shockwave treatment (or words to that effect)...

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Thanks Ken, I was in Marks & Spencer's today and I picked up a loaf of Irish Brown Soda Bread. I recalled somebody mentioning it on these forums recently so I thought I'd give it a whirl. To be honest, at first I wasn't too keen on the taste (being the fussy so-and-so I am) but it seemed to...

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Sue, apologies if this is a daft question but where exactly do I buy Fergus's bread? I know Ken's mentioned it a couple of times but I just assumed it was a bakery in his neck of the woods. Dave

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Geez, they're not exactly cheap, are they Ken? Four quid for a loaf (including P&P) and even dearer if I want to order the bread mix  I must admit I'm always a bit suspicious when people use phrases such as "it's an acquired taste". I remember a friend using that very same expression...

    Test Strip Post code Lottery

That's the plan, John. To be honest, when I was supposed to be checking my BG once a week, I told myself I would do it every Monday morning but more often than not, I would forget and sometimes go weeks without checking it. At least this checking my BG 4 - 6 times a day is keeping me on the...

    Hello Everyone!

Hi Steve, My hospital appointments aren't until Monday, 28th September and Thursday, 1st October respectively, which is next week. Both appointments require me to stay in hospital for the day. I will of course let you know how things go but I don't know how long after it'll be before I get the...

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

This is weird. Now my BG reading is 5.1 and I haven't had anything to eat or drink since my English brekkie. Sorry John, I've kinda lost track of the time so I don't know exactly how long it's been since my last BG result, but I hope this reading still helps. Dave PS My fingers are already...

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Sue, Is there an alternative I can use instead of bread? I have about 10 x strips left to tide me over until I pick up my prescription on Wednesday. Ken, I don't mind testing at regular intervals if John feels this will be beneficial to me. See John (going back to your last but one post)...

My BG is now 4.7 which means it hasn't gone down by much.

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Cheers John, but when you say overdoing the bread, does this include wholemeal bread which I was led to believe (by my practice nurse) was okay for diabetics to eat. See John, part of my routine is to have a sandwich when I'm due to take my meds as I don't like to take my tablets on an empty...

Type 2 Diabetes and Recurring UTI

Wow! Just checked my BG (one hour after my English brekkie) and it's 4.8. Is this normal or should it be higher? Not that I'm complaining, you understand? Does this low reading mean I can indulge in a Mars Bar?.... Just kidding! Dave

    Test Strip Post code Lottery

Funnily enough, I phoned the chemist this morning to order a repeat prescription of my regular meds and added "Also I need some more test strips for my Blood Glucose Monitor". This is the first time I've tried ordering them through the chemist. I was half-expecting her to tell me I'd have to...
