Risk score for heart attack and stroke

Hi, I haven’t been to the site for ages; could you recommend a good thread on statins and blood sugar raises. Is that a ‘known’ thing here? Many thanks Dillinger

Are any members part of the Artifical Pancreas Trial?

Hello, Are any members involved with this? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-60133358 If so could you let us know how you are finding it? Is it a game changer or does guestimating carbs make it unwieldy? Does it have low glucose alarms like the Freestyle Libre? Thanks Dillinger

Long Time Type 1 Suddenly no control

I was on Lantus for a long time and found moving to Levemir really helpful; for one thing you can split it so the action is flatter. Whatever the drug companies say no long acting insulin lasts as long as it is claimed. See if you can persuade your GP to prescribe you some.

New RCT studies challenge official dietary advice

Great post! Have you seen Kendrick on potassium? https://drmalcolmkendrick.org/2013/03/04/potassium-your-invisible-friend/ It's very interesting but bizarrely it's impossible to get potassium supplements at the levels he talks about for improving all cause mortality; about 4500 mg of...

New RCT studies challenge official dietary advice

A measured deficiency would be the best indicator. There is evidence that for Type 1 diabetics at least one of the issues is reduced thiamine (B1) levels which according to this artice "definitively has a role in the diabetic endothelial vascular diseases (micro and macroangiopathy), lipid...

Travelling Abroad - Hand Luggage Only

I'd always take your medication in hand luggage; the last time I travelled I seem to remember that there was a note in security to display medication so I put mine in one of the clear plastic bags. They also 'advise' you to have documentation (such as prescriptions) showing that the medication...

Type 1 T1 Diabetics CAN eat sugar

I'd say don't let perfect be the enemy of good. If having a bit of sugar helps you keep on the straight and narrow diet wise go ahead. But, in general I agree with your mum. You should always listen to your mum right?!

H1ac down to 6% but Consultant not happy.

That's a great result. How do you feel about it? Are you having hypos? If you're happy and you are managing to avoid erratic hypos (i.e. ones where you can't explain them - we all have hypos at some point) then keep doing what you are doing. The absolute worst piece of advice I ever got was a...

Diabulimia: NHS cash to treat type 1 diabetes eating disorder

There's also an article in The Guardian about this; https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/feb/28/diabetics-eating-disorder-diabulimia What is so sad about being caught up by this (NUANCE alert!) is that the people who suffer from it are on the right track - i.e. it's good to reduce your...

    At work with no insulin

Is the pharmacy that you normally get insulin from near your work? They may be able to give you an emergency supply - you may have to get your GP's surgery to confirm.

    The Guardian

A couple of things; you are pushing a classic 'argument from authority' position with your 30 years experience, impeccable HbA1c, support for dietary expert researchers and full analysis of the study text. But none of that matters; it is the song not the singer. As has been repeatedly...

    The Guardian

Afternoon. Here is the link to the study that is being discussed. The bulk of it is behind a paywall. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(18)31809-9/fulltext I'm guessing the reason many are having a pop at this is these types of study are relatively common, are...

    Dexcom G6

It's puzzling that it doesn't retain all the data it receives isn't it? I also use an app by Sugarmate that gives slightly better analytics i.e. averages, median, estimated HbA1c and the like. Anyone else have analytic app suggestions?

Why Are We Fat? Nz Documentary Series

Hi @Indy51 - you've summoned me back from beyond the beyond! Hope all's good. That was one of mine. Is everyone still arguing about statins and low-carbing on here? I hope so; we need SOME continuity in our lives! Best Dillinger

Confused by Dietician re Low Carb

There are many threads on here just like this. It’s very distressing to read. What this HCP is suggesting is magical thinking not science. Food either has carbohydrates or it does not. All carbohydrates are just chains of glucose, some longer than others. One’s body responds to glucose in...
