disclaimer: as I'm not a doctor, just a greasy teenager who fixed their obesity disorder with the same diet that has improved glycæmic control for many of you, nothing i say is to be interpreted as medical advice unless an actual medical doctor or other person legally permitted to practice medicine cosigns on it.
things i have to be ashamed of: racking up a post deletion over judgementalness. if you're the OP or mod on that reply that got deleted, je suis désolée
the metabolic syndrome, prediabetes, and diabetes aren't your fault, and neither are the resulting complications.
the complications are a result of high blood sugars, which are in only a misleading, mechanistic sense your fault. that's right - the blood sugars are not your fault, but you can fix them.
I've heard - don't quote me on this - that an oft-forgotten cause of brittle diabetes in both cases is asymptomatic tooth infections - get your teeth tapped by a dentist who knows about tooth tapping to diagnose infectious disorders of the teeth.
