Um. I'd be a little wary about having a diabetes themed tattoo if I didn't have diabetes. If you collapsed in the street, the ambulance crew MIGHT just be confused! Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

    background retinopathy

bumbles Blurred vision is quite common with high BS levels and should resolve itself quite quickly when your levels drop. Don't be tempted to spend big bucks on new glasses because they'll be redundant almost be fore you get them! Good luck.

    Diagnosed 4 hours ago

Just bear in mind that you will probably hear more from people who've been affected by Metformin than the vast majority who take it without problems! By itself it won't lower your readings much but it is a good, safe drug with proven benefits. If you have any adverse effects then these will...

Newly diagnoised and yes this is my fault

You're looking at this the wrong way, crazymom. Whether or not you take metformin (or any other medication, come to that) you need to reduce your carb levels to, a) help lower your BS levels, b) lose weight and increase your energy. I've lost 2.5 stone over the last year following the advice...

Here is what I have eaten-confused.

I agree totally with the diet suggestions other have made here but I'd like to add another factor into the "what food" mix - namely portion control. I was shocked after diagnosis last year when I started looking at what I was actually eating. As a small example, I would normally pour some...

What unusual things make you hypo?

Supermarkets make me feel odd, too (and it's not just the thought of spending money). I discovered long before being diagnosed that at the back of any large store, and particularly supermarkets where lighting levels are high, that I would experience what I would now recognise as a hypo. Moving...

    unexpected weightloss?

In February I discovered that I had lost 10lb in two weeks - and it was this alone that took me to my GP to be diagnosed as T2. Once my BG was under control, the sudden weight loss stopped.

Bayer 0 Abbott Labs 10 I've never been able to get past Bayer's call system to talk to anyone, hence the score. By contrast Abbott Labs are responsive and helpful every time I call.

    Meters

Gratope Boots do sell meters - at least the larger ones do. If you want cheap strips then buy them from Ebay or ring Abbott Labs who will probably give you a meter if you tell them you'll be testing regularly. They also sell strips direct (although it's not mentioned on their website) for around...

contour usb is it worth buying??

Googling for this meter gives me this link. If you click the "contact us" link at the bottom of this page it will give you the option to email Accu-chek. Good luck. http://www.accu-chek.co.uk/gb/products/ ... xpert.html

    Type 2 and weight loss

Not true. Three months ago I went to my GP because I'd lost 9 lbs over 2 weeks and had slightly blurred vision - no other symptoms. My BG was 25 on testing and T2 confirmed fairly quickly. Getting my BG under control with a sensible diet and medication has resulted in a steady, controlled weight...

Is Metformin linked to leg cramps?

Funnily enough I've found the opposite. I used to suffer from frequent excruciating cramps in my hamstrings most nights. Since starting metformin three months ago I haven't had one episode. Maybe your cramps are for another reason; diet with lower salt or other minerals, for example?
