Type 2 Fine tuning BG with Metformin?

Thanks, do you have insulin resistance or visceral fats or you are lean. That is the issue that i read that in lean people effect of Metformin is negligible.

Type 2 Fine tuning BG with Metformin?

I am diet-controlled T2 and have been able to keep my BGs in check for the last 3 years with an average BG of 6 mmol/l. I would like to see the average below 100. I am not insulin resistant, overweight. I am more concerned about my postprandial spikes. On low-carb, i can keep my spikes below 7...

Contour Next vs Contour Plus (strips and accuracy)

Thanks. Ok, so I am weighing my options to buy a Contour glucometer. Because Contour Plus strips are 50% cheaper than Next, i can go ahead and buy Plus monitor. Question is the accuracy of Next vs Plus is there any difference or its just technology?

Contour Next vs Contour Plus (strips and accuracy)

Can someone guide me please on what's the difference between Contour Next and Contour Plus glucometer. Do they both have the same accuracy? I am asking this because the cost of strips for Contour Next is almost double the Contour Plus. If results are the same then why this difference?

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

Its basically the response of your body (insulin) to high dose of sugar/carbs after a meal. As opposed to basal or 2nd phase which keeps working round the clock to keep your BG in normal limists.

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

That's what my goal is for now hence these questions to set up a path that works for me at least and live a more un- paranoid life :)

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

I am with you on this 100%. Been gone through this roller coaster and then enrolling into a full time nutrition degree, I just realised doctors are not helping out at least T2 as well as they should and then pharma influenced carb rich diet that regulatory bodies force onto medical system...

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

I checked and i know i dont have. My HOMA-IR is 0.68. I definitely used to have before diagnosis.

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

If i know that for certain, i am more than happy to live my life, but what science says is that your optimal oxidative stress, AGEs creation is about 5.5 mmol, anything above that is definitely going to cause extra burden on your mitochondria.

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

Thanks for your detailed response. There is so much in insulin signalling that is still not discovered. You could have stored insulin granules, but sometimes first phase trigger is lacking for whatever reason, hormonal/incretin etc. So what i have noticed is that insulin gets a nudge at a...

Type 2 First phase insulin, Metformin & GLP-1

I have a question about first phase insulin response which i will breakdown into two sub questions. 1. Has anyone who has no insulin resistance, not obese, low BMI, no belly fat has seen significant decrease in postprandial blood glucose with Metformin ? Means does Metformin helps in activating...

RBC shorter lifespan, lower than expected glycation, and complications

Hi John thanks, but doesn't the same RBC when glycated cause issues in small blood vessels, so somehow if they are being turned around and being replaced by fresh RBC's so it not even reduces my a1c but also reduces my overall glycation as well? that is what is being measured here. Makes sense?

RBC shorter lifespan, lower than expected glycation, and complications

Yes, that is given. My question is does this reduced glycation reduced impact on diabetic complications because RBC turn over time is reduced?

RBC shorter lifespan, lower than expected glycation, and complications

Having a shorter RBC lifespan means that your estimated HbA1c will be lower than the actual value. This is because of fast turn around of RBC and having less glycation as compared to RBC with a normal lifespan of 90-120 days. I have G6PD deficiency where my calculated RBC is much shorter so i...

Type 2 Metformin & postprandial BG in non-obese

Yes, that is what I understand and that is why it helps those who have fatty liver/insulin resistance and fasting BG due to reducing glucagon. Now in my case, not sure if it will help me in some of added carbs, that's the unknown, so thought i will see if someone experimented with this.
