Forgot to fast — will test results be terrible?!

Hi there, try reading Dr Malcolm Kendrick's book The Great Cholesterol Con before worrying about results you don't know yet. I agree with bulkbiker, low carb, high protein and fat. Don't beat yourself up over an error and have a fab Christmas and New Year.

GP's are to be told to use old types of medications for T2

Not only are they not allowed to prescribe the MetforminSR straight away but every time my GP repeats my prescription they have to override the system as it won't print a prescription for SR without permission of the practice manager. My GP qualified in 1978 and she now needs the permission of a...

GP's are to be told to use old types of medications for T2

I must admit that due to work and family commitments I have been out of the loop for a while so did not see this mentioned anywhere until today. Slightly concerning as I already have problems getting my GP's practice to listen. Oh well prepare for some changes then.

GP's are to be told to use old types of medications for T2

Did anyone else catch this story today in the Daily Mail. GP's will be told by NICE that they are to stop prescribing the newer types of diabetes meds as they are too expensive. The ones they are going to be told to use are repaglinide and pioglitazone which are apparently rarely prescribed...

    Rant Alert - NHS Guidance

I can understand exactly where you are coming from, my dad died in August 2010. He was fed - quite literally - the NHS mantra of carb, carb, carb since he was diagnosed in 1996. All it did for him was to increase his weight and sugar levels to the point where insulin was needed. The end result...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

I think I will take your advice and I thank you for it, I am stressed, but more from the point of view that everything is so controlled, I understand about the litigation aspect, but there must still be room for them to treat us as individuals and not just tick boxes. NICE have turned them into...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

The 4.6% does include my T2, I understand there is nothing definite in life, after all I could get hit by a bus tomorrow. However what is not included in the questions are things like: Alcohol intake Regular exercise General fluid intake These all will contribute in making us more or less...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

Thank you for these links I have sat and read through the NICE document again this evening. What is interesting is that all the the way through they are advising Dr's to discuss lifestyle with the patient before offering statin therapy. In the section listed as 'Primary Prevention' this is what...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

I have had a pretty bad night, laying awake thinking about all the government recommendations and what can and can't be proved. I am so grateful for this site and the contributors to it. You put my mind at rest and make me think logically and not emotionally. All health issues make us emotional...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

Thank you for your comment, but do you not feel that the severe stress I was under at the time of the test has some impact on what have always been perfectly good results. I do not know what the guidelines are Cyprus but here, contrary to popular belief, NICE have never set lipid control limits...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

I was only diagnosed a year ago and have had 2 full blood tests since then, my surgery are jumping up and down because of the second set and I see nothing to be concerned about - this just makes them even more forthright and pushy. Nov 2013: BP 135/78, Tot Chol 5.0, Trig 0.6, HDL 1.0, LDL 3.4...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

Very interested in your printout - my last results were scribbled on a scrap of paper by the nurse! Must ask why this is not possible for our clinic.

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

I found this very interesting and he does explain things clearly, but it still doesn't answer the main question for me which is should we be focussing as much on the breakdown of these lipoproteins anyway. This all depends if you agree with the current thinking by the medical sector (who are...

What's the test to identify the large, fluffy LDL component?

I know this sounds strange but I have recently found out that they do not actually test for LDL or trigs as it is just far too expensive. This information came from Zoe Harcombe's website: 'Cholesterol – what does the blood cholesterol test actually measure?' Therefore of the 4 figures they...

    Severe Cold

Thanks for the reply, after posting last night I phoned my Aunt who has been diabetic for 12 years and also has this bug. She says she never tests when she is ill as it is just too depressing and just gives a false picture of how well she is controlled which is very well by the way. She is still...
