    Stopping Smoking

Well done Fencer! After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally "stopped" smoking just before Christmas. Or at least, I stopped buying them. I still have the odd cigarette at big events, perhaps one every two months or so, if there is a party or big social do (and someone I can scrounge off)...

    Food poisoning help!

As lovinglife suggests, I would ring NHS direct and ask for their advice. In general though, even with a bout of food poisoning, I would continue taking my lantus (as this deals with the background energy that your body needs to keep you alive) and just stop taking my fast acting insulin if I...

Was it for the Bayer meter, in the big advert at the bottom of this (and most other ) page? This one... http://www.diabetes.co.uk/promotions/bayer-meters.html Did you tick the 3rd box down, the one that says "I don't wish for Bayer plc to use my details to provide me with information on...

Morning campers :) 6.1 at 6am this morning, couldn't sleep so got up and made a cup of tea. Back to bed afterwards, and then 9.7 at 8.30 when I finally got up! Not very happy about that.

    Sugar or fat or both?

An abstract of the original study is here ... http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 3111002099 but as the study was only recently published, it is not free. There is however a "referred by" link in the summary to... http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 3111002191 titled...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6 this morning, that could be the meal at the local restaurant last night, or the 3 hours of aperitifs before we ate  Still, I"m happy with a 6 after a night out, alcohol and eating over an extended period can give me much higher (or lower) figures the morning after.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Weird, my waking numbers have been in the 3.5 to 4 range all week. This is a bit lower than normal for me, as I would usually be in the 5s, but I'm starting to understand the pattern, I think. I've been receiving chemotherapy for the last 4 months. One of the side effects is that my white...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

That's all very well, and I suppose it needed saying in case there are any newbies posting to this thread that don't know about regular testing, but a lot of people seem to find this thread useful. Taking the wider view, type 1s (for example) can judge a lot about their control by their fasting...

Hypo - where did I go wrong?

The cream that you had with your fruit, was it full fat, and did you have a lot of it? Just wondering if "the pizza effect" might have come into play? If the carbohydrate that you had eaten wasn't yet available because your body was still processing the fat when you started the box crushing...
