    Could this be type 2?

Thank you for your reply. Maybe I will try the low carb way. I’ve dallied with it in the past but there are so many hidden carbs in almost everything except protein and fat aren’t there. And I do love fruit, I’ve noticed even an apple sends my glucose sky rocketing.

    Could this be type 2?

Hello, I’ve not been here for some years now. I was told I was prediabetic over ten years ago when a health check discovered hypertension for which I take losartan 50mg. I have a check up annually and the hba1c has been rising steadily until last September it was 47. I’m not overweight and my...

    Artificial sweeteners

Ok thank you everyone for your replies. You have all said what I thought myself and never understood the reasoning behind what I’d read. I only use the stuff quite moderately so will carry on as before. I’ve used Canderel or the equivalent for years now with no ill effect as far as I know, I...

    Artificial sweeteners

I keep reading elsewhere on this site that artificial sweeteners are a complete No-no and I’m wondering why? I get the impression that they raise the HbA1c. Is this right and if so what other damage do they do? Does this apply to all sweeteners or just the Canderel type.

Scared of probable progression from pre diabetic to diagnosis of T2

Any day now I will get a message from the surgery to make an appointment for the annual review so will keep you posted as to what happens with the hba1c.

Scared of probable progression from pre diabetic to diagnosis of T2

Thanks for the reply. My diet is really fairly normal I think. Breakfast is typically grapefruit, 2 eggs, poached or boiled and tea and brown toast. Never eat cereal these days and have found that keeps the weight off. Lunch comprises usually home made vegetable soup, perhaps some salami...

Scared of probable progression from pre diabetic to diagnosis of T2

Interesting that they are relaxed about your father’s hba1c now he’s 93. If the worst happens I hope I’ll get the same relaxed attitudes. Metformin always sounds decidedly unpleasant with its raft of horrid side effects.

Scared of probable progression from pre diabetic to diagnosis of T2

Thank you for your reply perhaps I’m starting to panic as it’s time soon for the annual review and blood tests.I don’t want a diagnosis of diabetes . Over ten years ago I was diagnosed with hypertension and do take meds for that. I know that is a risk for type 2 and predictably the following...

Scared of probable progression from pre diabetic to diagnosis of T2

I haven’t posted on here for a long time but was diagnosed as prediabetic ten years ago aged 71 after tests had revealed hypertension and high cholesterol. Each year the HBa1c has risen and last year it had jumped to 46 which didn’t seem to give the nurse any concern, apparently in view of my...

NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme; letter from my GP surgery

It always amazes me that diabetic nurses promote the Eatwell plate and similar. You'd think they would know that carbohydrate turns to sugar in the bloodstream. But the Fixing Dad website?? and what is the one you call 'The other place I cannot mention'?

NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme; letter from my GP surgery

I'm interested that yourself and others have found it beneficial for joint pain to follow the LCHF diet. I think perhaps I should persevere more with that and see if it helps. The knee pain isn't so bad but the stiffness, swelling and immobility is getting worse and I think I should ask the GP...

NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme; letter from my GP surgery

Clearly the GP surgery had passed my details to this firm as the letter said not to contact the surgery.
