My Step Dad is diabetic and won't listen....

I have the small pocket size version of 'Carbs & cals & protein & fat' - it's by Chris Cheyette and Yello Balolia. Sorry to butt in, but thought I'd answer the question seeing as I have the book right here by the computer. Vicky

    scary experience

Thanks Denise, That gives me a clue about what to ask for when I go back to the GP. They've done tests for anemia and B12 deficiency. That was all fine. Blood sugar levels aren't running high. Will ask GP to check for thyroid/Vit D Vicky

    scary experience

Just a quick update for those people who were kind enough to reply to me and who were concerned. I went to the GP surgery last Thursday, and saw a new doc who I think was covering for holidays. Anyway, she referred me straight to the emergency assessment unit at the hospital, who did all sorts...

Low Carb Diet is bad for your health...

LOL  But, oh dear, read all of these and found my self looking for the 'like' button. Too much time on Facebook I think!!

Thank you for your responses. I went for an HBA1c on Thurday at the GP surgery, and asked them to book an appointment for me to speak to the doc, as the nurse was busy doing flu jabs. Unfortunatley they have one of those stupid 'book on the day' systems which is useless if, like me, you work...

Thank you for your responses. In reply: I can't remember whether it was the leaflet in the pack or the diabetic consultant who told me to take the Glimepiride before the first meal of the day. I've lost the leaflet in the current pack, so when I get a prescription refill I will check. I was...

    scary experience

My afternoons have been going a bit strange for a while now, and I was wondering whether anyone else had experienced anything like this. Am not sure if it's diabetes related or not.... I've been getting really spaced out and vacant in the afternoon for quite a while. I'd previously put it down...

    some atkins/low carb questions

Hello all, I have a few Atkins/low carb questions I was hoping some of you could help with. I have been on a bit of a voyage of discovery over the past couple of weeks, experimenting with atking induction to see whether it is likely to suit me, and had a few slip-ups along the way, but now...

    Bad stomach

It is a common thing. If it's just happening occasionally with you, you might want to note what types of food you're eating when you get the 'tablet tummy' as we call it in our house. For me, after a few weeks of starting to take metaformin, my stomach got used to it for the most part, and now...

    DVD Organisation

Definatley A-Z. Some films don't fit in one specific genre category so it could get confusing if you try to do it that way. To use your example of romcom or horror, where would you put Shaun of the Dead? Unless you have a seperate category for zom-rom-com which I believe is how Simon Peg...

    Any video gamers around?

Not a gamer myself, but have a Mass Effect 3 addicted partner. Not to mention the Total War series, Starcraft, the Witcher, Deus Ex, the Civilization series, and the list goes on and on and on. No World of Warcraft though - He's an old school Ultima Online player.

Inspiration needed for a special birthday gift

One of the things I remember most about my 18th was the bunch of flowers I was given. My first ever real proper grown up bunch of flowers from the florists with lots of cellophane and ribbons. That made me feel really special. I think a Hana's idea of a special pen in a nice box is great for a...

    Going to festivals?

Wellies!! Diabetic or not, always take wellies! And wrap everything in bin bags before you pack it. It may seem odd, but when you wake up to find the rain or the condensation from inside the tent has seeped through your rucksack and you have no clean, dry clothes, especially socks, you'll wish...

Falling asleep at work, anyone else?

This happens to me too. I've started to reduce the carbs in my lunch - instead of having a sandwich and crisps I now have a salad, and a cereal bar with around 15g carb in it. Have found it helps, although I am still sleepy, am nowhere near as bad as I used to be. Also, the air con was on...

    Yoghurt

I have soy yogurt, as it has less carbs, and I think it takes better than the ordinary ones. Has to be the plain one for me though as the vanilla or fruit ones have loads more carbs. Worth a try anyway. Vicky
