I'm back looking for help again!

Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds very similar. My Dad was a heavy drinker and I tried for years to get him to deal with his problem. He would stop for a few weeks after falling splitting his head open, going to hospital, signing himself out, and then the cycle would start all...

I'm back looking for help again!

I am now at a complete loss, it has been 4 months and we are back to square on again. Any suggestions I make it's either 'I can't or I don't like...'. I am dreading going to the hospital today because I know when he gets home he will make no effort to help himself.

Thank you for your reply. He is on insulin in the hospital but also suggested he might need it at home as he isn't managing his diabetes. It has been unstable since he was diagnosed 12 years ago but because continued to drink large amounts of alcohol and eat sugary foods. I think this is the...

I'm back looking for help again!

Thank you for your post. I have tried to get him to make better choices, but the diabetic nurse in the hospital told me my father is refusing to take responsibility for his diabetes. They have asked him repeatly to drink water and he refuses, demanding diet drinks. I know they are sugar free but...

I'm back looking for help again!

Hi everyone, Some people will remember me, I posted a lot in May about my dad's type 2 diabetes. I was trying to get my dad's blood sugar levels under control. When he was referred to the diabetic nurse he chose to follow the NHS guidelines for diet. The medication seems to work and he was...

    Can I rant here, please?

Just a quick update, my dad registered with the new Doctor yesterday. He has arranged an appointment for the Diabetic clinic for June, and a dietian for July. He spoke with a diabetic nurse today and she was happy his blood sugar has dropped to 8.3. She has given him diet advice that he is...

Thanks @AndBreathe My dad has a brilliant care team, the nurse visits 3 times a week plus a pediatrist. They have been trying to help him and support him before and afte the operation. Basically he wants everyone else to do the hard work and he refuses to make an effort. The nurses actually...

    Can I rant here, please?

Yes he is very demanding and manipulative. I think it's why my mum stayed with him when she should have left years ago, he always threatened to drink himself to death if she left. She couldn't live with the guilt if something had happened to him. I said I would give him 6 weeks until he...

    Can I rant here, please?

So long as I keep testing him and controlling his food. He won't make the effort for himself. My mum was late making dinner last night and he threatened to order a Chinese takeaway.

    Help

Hi John, My dad was in a similar situation, he went in for surgery and his blood sugar was 26 because he hasn't been controlling his diet. The doctor injected him with insulin to get his blood sugar down. After surgery they continued with his 2 x2 metformin and added Linagliptin in the morning...

I looked up the NHS diet info for diabetics and it said 'healthy balanced diet' which he quoted to me. If she said he could have bread and potatoes, I have lost the battle. He thinks the 'professionals' know best.

    Can I rant here, please?

Hi everyone, Just thought I would pop in and say hello and give you a quick update. The low carb diet seems to be working Dad's blood sugar was 19 and now is 13, still not good but better. He is eating well because he eats what I give him, left to his own devices who knows. He spoke to the...

    Can I rant here, please?

I was talking to a friend last night about her 18 year old son and I really that although she can inform and advise him he has to make his own choices and be responsible for his own mistakes. So today I told my Dad I would keep sorting his medication and sugar levels. I would buy all the right...
