Strong genetic disposition to type 2: diabetes inevitable?

Is it possible to have such a strong genetic disposition to type 2 diabetes that progression to it being fully blown is inevitable despite being an appropriate weight, keeping carbohydrate intake down and exercising regularly, and without it actually being LADA? I ask because it looks like I...

Frowned at by Nurse when I mentioned LCHF

This from the Guardian is a brilliant read, and lays out very clearly (and with plenty of scientific studies backup) how the low-fat, high-grain diet came into being and how it's a house of cards, based on some very dubious science (at best)...

Why am I not losing weight or improving bg?

Please bear in mind that being somewhere in the 'normal' range with thryoid bloods is NOT the same as being optimal. Many in the thyroid community have learnt this the hard way, myself included. Generally speaking, you want your TSH to be under 1.0 and your free T4 to be in the upper quarter of...

    Sudden change in bread reaction

Not this old canard AGAIN! You have to be predisposed to T2 in the first place and many, MANY people with unhealthy lifestyles do not go on to develop diabetes; it is not a given. Saying that it's a 'lifestyle' disease, when they have eaten only what the vast majority of others eat, and then...

    Low(ish) Carb Treats

Probably not unless the fat content is high. I understand that it's the combination of sugar and fat that makes ice cream (and frozen yogurt) soft enough to not need an ice pick...

    Low(ish) Carb Treats

For those of us who are not ultra-low carbing and would like a sweetish treat, I have discovered that Yeo Valley's Vanilla Custard ice cream is not too bad: TYPICAL VALUES PER 100ml Energy 441 kJ/106 kcal Fat 6.1g of which Saturates 3.7g Carbohydrate 10.2g of which Sugars 10.2g Protein...

LCHF: suitable foodstuffs for mindless grazing

True. But I am getting thirstier as time goes on (blood sugars? lithium? who knows) and so do tend to drink a fair bit already, just as mouthfuls at a time. I don't really want to have to drink even more!

LCHF: suitable foodstuffs for mindless grazing

But I'm not craving carbs, not really. I just need to keep my mouth occupied so that I don't drink 5 litres of water a day.

LCHF: suitable foodstuffs for mindless grazing

I really do need to count calories: a whacked-out thyroid means that I have to keep a grip, even with near-optimal levels of medication. My macros are roughly 20-25% carbohydrate, 30% protein and 45-50% fat. Which equates to roughly 60-70 g of carbohydrate per day: not ultra low but not exactly...

LCHF: suitable foodstuffs for mindless grazing

A combination of dry mouth and hair-trigger bladder: can't keep drinking otherwise I'll be on the lav all day. So mostly to keep the saliva coming.

LCHF: suitable foodstuffs for mindless grazing

I like sugar-free sweets but they don't like me (at least, not in any great daily quantity). I need to graze a little during the day on small items, such as the aforementioned sweets, but also need to stick within 1500 kcal per day. I also need to be able to access them easily in the car, too...

Insulin resistance without excess visceral fat

Just the one teabag (Mrs Wembley). And no, it's not 1/3 of a mug. And my household has standard-sized mugs.

Insulin resistance without excess visceral fat

Fruit tea... ugh. Not great with sweetener, even worse with. I may up my intake of jasmine tea. And I've discovered that I don't need to add as much milk to Tesco's chocolate tea so may sub that for my morning tea at work. As to why I can't gorge on much of anything. Who knows? It's a right...

Insulin resistance without excess visceral fat

Height 5'1", weight 8st 4lbs, BMI 21.9, bodyfat 26.5%. I'm fairly certain that most around here would not consider 90g carbohydrate / day very low-carb; that falls into the realm of under 50g / day.

Insulin resistance without excess visceral fat

I could cut out my one apple per day. And that really is it. Everything else is pared back as far as I'm willing to go, otherwise I'll be into the realms of unsustainable punishment.
