Tom,
Several issues that you could consider:-
- is my needle length too long? Some of these hypos are close to the time of injecting
- is my injection technique right - this can affect absorption
- is my carb ratio right?
- is the type of food I am eating being absorbed to quickly or slowly
-...
The problem you describe is a common one. We talk about rapid acting insulins forgetting that on average they work over 6 hours with most of the glucose lowering taking place in the 2nd and 3rd hours after injecting. The only possible way of controlling 2 hr BGLs well is either by eating less...
I can understand the frustration. The issues I would look at are:-
- insulin injection technique and injection sites
- insulin storage - insulin can degrade if stored incorrectly - probably change the devices/cartridge as the first step
- is the insulin actually being injected
- are you...
Re: iPhone Apps - any recommendations
I have no experience with this App although it would seem logical that it does support Novorapid. Is there an Email address you can direct your query to?
Re: iPhone Apps - any recommendations
Thanks,
The insulin-calculators certainly looks simple - what I am after is something that follows the DAFNE rules a bit more closely with different targets and carb ratios for different times of day. The RapidCalc app allows for this.
Re: iPhone Apps - any recommendations
I have found RapidCalc on iTunes - it looks like this is what I am after. I needed some help with inputting settings but was able to get this from my endocrinologist. Early days yet but it seems to be the basal-bolus equivalent of a pump. Have a look!
iPhone Apps - any recommendations
Does anyone have any recommendations for an iPhone app for use in Type 1 diabetes, that does more than serve as an electronic BGL record book ? I was thinking of something that provides guidance on meal time dosing.
Can the principles of a carb counting program such as DAFNE be used in Type 2 diabetes ?
What additional factors, over Type 1 diabetes, would need to be taken into account apart from insulin resistance and correspondingly higher insulin doses?
