    Keto with T1 diabetes

I am Type 1 and do low carb because it keeps me relatively stable and in range. If I eat more carbs and use more short-term insulin, quickly I end up on the glucose roller coaster, but that's what works for me - others will have different experience.

    Type 1

Welcome to the forums. Your post is puzzling because Type 1s have to take insulin and you were diagnosed several months ago so it seems extremely rare to be taking oral meds for type 1 instead.

how long before a meal do you bolus

Trurapi and Novarapid are the only insulins covered by the gov't health plan where I live and I have to still pay a portion of the cost; so for economy reasons I'm sticking with them. It's not a problem because I have grown used to them and know what to expect.

    Recently diagnosed type 1

Welcome to the forums @Ruaidhri. There's a steep, interesting learning curve to Type 1 and the members here are a great help with that as they share their experiences. I always make sure I have my hypo remedies nearby at night and in my pocket when I go out, that way if I feel a hypo coming on...

Increased basal = increased fasting sugars

Have you tried taking a 'correction' dose first thing after you wake up? I believe some members here do that to combat dawn phenomena.

how long before a meal do you bolus

My fast-acting is Trurapi and before that, Novarapid. I find them the same. If I don't prebolus an hour or an hour and a half before eating, I spike over 10 for a several hours. That's for lunch; for dinner I prebolus only about half an hour. I stay aware of my blood sugar after the...

Super low carb but high blood suagrs

Welcome to the forum @MikeMc. Given that you are nearly full carnivore, the rise in your blood sugars is the work of your liver converting protein to glucose for reasons beyond your current understanding. This is hard to calculate for but can be done. Dr Richard Bernstein gives info about...

dirty word on here I'd presume , but "snacks"

When I snack, I stick to a low carb snack, in order to avoid insulin stacking.

    Bitter melon

Whenever I have eaten it (in soup or stir-fry) I have found my blood sugar was lower than it otherwise would be.

    What’s your inspiration?

My inspiration is life itself also. I totally agree with you @Ushthetaff. I also thought long and hard about my answer @Margarettt and on returning to the thread found that @Ushthetaff was inspired same way as me. Maybe it's a strong survival instinct or an unrelenting optimistic spirit but I...

    Blurred vision

My vision fluctuates and somewhere on this website there is a thread about changing and blurring vision via which I learned others have this problem too. My sugars are relatively stable, almost always in range. Although I don't have a cgm, I test my blood for the after-meal peak to see how...

    Confirmation bias

Thank you for this interesting post and pertinent heads-up. I have to remind myself to ask "what are my biases? Do I have an open mind?" which are essential questions on any topic. Early in my diabetic journey the work of Dr. Richard Bernstein made an indelible impression on me and it was...
