    Parking fine...treating hypo!!!

This is not necessarily true. If you pay the fine, I believe that they may not process the appeal properly or permit referral to POPLA. I think on mine, if you pay the fine, you are admitting that they were right.

    Parking fine...treating hypo!!!

That used to be true, but I think the Coalition Government did the Protection of Freedoms Act* 2012 and they became more legally enforceable. I'd be wary of simply ignoring it. * = a most inappropriately named piece of legislation given that it removes some personal freedoms

    Parking fine...treating hypo!!!

That, I think, is an oversimplification that could have come from a parking company. So, like you, I will play Devil's Advocate with a completely fictitious scenario ... Alvin has overstayed their allotted time in the airport car park because the runway was closed; the parking company says they...

Type 1: Hubby's levels out of control

My daughter and I buy the "fun size" and multipack Haribo sweets. They work out 10p/pack - 25 for £2 or thereabouts. They are about 12-16g of carbs in each, dependent on whether they are jelly babies/starmix/etc which is ideal for when your sugars are three point something. One pack, one...

    Type 1 Privatised Diabetes Care

I was told today that my local CCG (Eastern and Central Cheshire) plan to move all adult diabetes outpatient care out of the hospital and into a "polyclinic" with a third-party privatised "Community Interest" provider. The company is apparently Vernova Healthcare and their website indicates...

Type 1: Problems with prescriptions for test strips

Your doctors practice should know better. As a newly-diagnosed T1 you will need to test more regularly anyway as you adjust your basal amounts, bolus ratios, etc. Sure, a Freestyle Libre (if you have one) will help you but finger prick testing is the only way to be certain as CGMs are never THAT...

Can I drop my hba1c by 1% in a month?

I thought the advice was around 10-15 minutes before a meal.

Children with type 1 at school

Our school have been good. They demanded that they follow the care plan that the paediatric DSN issues, which is a NICE guideline one I believe, but we've tweaked that and they have accepted our amendments. If you have the AccuChek monitor, the target range can be set differently at different...

Mother of a type 1 diabetic child and work.

My daughter (eight) has been T1D for three years. We never had any problems with the after-school clubs. They were a little reticent at first, but we sat down and showed them what they had to do and they had a care plan. Plus, my daughter has the confidence of a PhD medical student (which is...

    Type 1: Blood sugar

My first few "hypos" were me dipping below 5.0 for the first time in weeks. It was almost a relief to get to 3.9 for the first time and have a genuine hypo after my body had cried wolf for days! I sometimes feel hypo now when I'm not; I think if my bloods come down rapidly it causes the...

How much of an affect does tiredness have on Type 1?

I am an insomniac; I rarely get more than six hours sleep and often function on five. I've been like that since my early teens. My blood sugars are relatively stable - around 4-7mmol/l during the day. Reading this thread, if I ever decide to start getting 7-8 hours sleep per night, I better...

    Driving License

They announced that from January 2018 it will no longer apply. Until then (unless they've changed their minds), they will continue to punish night-time hypos.

    Driving License

As I understand it, alcoholics - who are potentially at a greater risk of drink driving - don't have to have a restricted license with their medical support signing off that their addiction is under control regularly. Neither do many people with conditions that could affect their ability to...

    Car insurance and Type 1

I rang up in July; the insurance company weren't bothered. I changed insurance at renewal in August. Made no difference to the premiums. As a financial company, put in a complaint. Having diabetes is a disability; they are treating you differently and disadvantaging you with no justifiable...
