Is it ok to cut back on testing?

Tested regularly for about 15 months post diagnosis. 4-6 times per day and kept log of meals & test results on mySugr. Got used to a low carb diet and achieved HbA of 37 from 102 at diagnosis. Stopped testing at the start of 2019 (went away for a few days and forgot my test kit). Not tested...

    Medical opinion

102mmol/l to 36mmol/l in 4 months. Same initial meds as yourself - dropped the Gliclazide as soon as levels good (around 2 or 3 weeks in) Stepped down the Met gradually (2000mg/day prescribed, 500mg/day now). Recent HBA1c 39. Testing regularly (before meals & 2 hours after) absolutely...

    BG self-testing

I tested regularly for the first 15 months from diagnosis. Used the MySugr app to estimate HBA results & got fairly good correlation with actual HBA tests. Also logged carb estimates for each meal to learn what does / doesn't affect BG levels. Stopped testing around New Year, 2 x 6monthly HBA1C...

MySugr app and its Hb1AC estimates

Used MySugr for just over a year. 4 or 6 tests/day. Before meals and +2 hours after Found it pretty close. Predicted 2 points lower than actual results pretty consistently. Also found it useful as a food diary to track carbs per day averages. Good App.

    Latest HBA result

Not clinging to the Metformin, I am stepping it down gradually - now at 1/4 of what I was prescribed. Also stopped my Gliclazide, as originally prescribed, within 6 weeks of diagnosis using LC eating. And, I never said I was higher carb on a daily basis. More like the (very) occasional...

    Breakfast Ideas

May not appeal to everyone but I often have cheese & biscuits for breakfast. Water biscuits are 2.5g carb each. I have 4 with Brie/Stilton/Goats cheese. around 10g carb total Some olives and silverskin pickled onions too. Co-Op and M&S do packs of dried bacon strips as an occasional addition...

Quit smoking and high sugar levels

Tried many makes & flavours until I settled on a couple of favourites. Vape these pretty much exclusively. 1-2 10mg bottles per day low nicotine strength; either 3 or 6mg/ml (worked down gradually from the strongest strength). Flavours are both berry & menthol types. One has a bit of an aniseed...

Quit smoking and high sugar levels

Gave up smoking 2 years ago, shortly after T2D diagnosis. Don't think it affected my BS too much and I quit by vaping instead. (and still do)

    BG levels after stopping Metformin

Have been on 2000mg/day for all of 2018. Reduced (self, not Doctor) to 1000mg/day at new year and no difference in HbA1c at 6 months in (36) Now on to 500mg/day and will remain until next HbA1c is done. Due to other benefits I have read about, I don't think I want to stop altogether

    Emergency rations

M&S deli has dried bacon strips which are addictive. They are in the 3 for £7 deal.... so I get 3 packs!!! (our local garage is a BP/M&S, so this happens each time I fill the car)

This is where I buy my meat

You must live near where I work. I pass Elms Farm on the way in to work. Might just call in & order some steak.

    Latest HBA result

Just an update on my journey... I was diagnosed in Sep 2017 with HBA of 101 & sent to hospital with suspected DKA (sent home again after a couple of hours) With info from this forum, I went strict LC / regular testing and achieved a result of 37 around 4 months later Metformin 2 x 1000mg per day...
