    diabetes checkup

Yes, I had a telephone appointment with the consultant and diabetic nurse who is due to follow up in a month. Plus I had a home visit this morning from the DN from the surgery who took a blood test and checked my feet. I think under seventies were asked to go to the surgery for this.

Freestyle Libre Poll - Have you had a skin reaction ?

Same here. Over 2 years of use and no skin reaction, thank goodness.

    Travelling Abroad

I've never been asked to show a letter or prescription although I carry one but I always tell security staff I'm diabetic before I put my bag through the scanner.

    Paying VAT on Freestyle Libre

I've contacted both my local ASDA and Boots about buying the Freestyle Libre from them instead of the website. Both told me a price of £63 including VAT. When I queried the VAT both said they had no way of selling it to me without VAT nor could they help me reclaim the VAT. So what have other...

    Freestyle Libre Asda £44.00

I've just spoken to my local ASDA who quoted me £60+ including VAT and said they weren't aware of VAT exceptions. I did manage to get 3 from Boots at £40, but don't all rush! On collection she admitted she'd made a mistake and the full price was £60+ however she did honour the price she had...

Panicking about overseas residential fieldtrip with T1

    D) is the easiest. Use a frio coolbag. It's not perfect but your insulin will not go off in it if it is out of a fridge for 13 day as long as you keep it as cool as possible.. A) set an alarm overnight and test your own blood sugars. Then treat if appropriate. B) can you gradually wean yourself...

    new libre

I'm self funding at present (and living in hope!). I order from Libre for @£50 a time VAT free, don't forget to tick the box. There are, or were last year, codes for postage free delivery. I also reduce the cost by not using them back to back. I do 2 weeks on and roughly 1 week off ie back to...

    FreeStyle sensor problem

I've had the occasional message but each time it's cleared itself. The comparisons with my blood sugar readings have been good. No issues with adhesion. I've only had one which would not start up properly and this was immediately replaced.

    Type 1 Eyesight

Another long term diabetic here who still has good eyesight although with glasses. I was diabetic for about 35 years before I needed glasses for reading. I've now graduated to varifocals and my sight is still good enough to drive despite having fairly heavy laser treatment in both eyes. I think...

    Freestyle liber

Hi. The sensor cuts off after 2 weeks. The number of times you use it does not matter but to have a continuous reading you should use it at least every 8 hours. It will still read if you leave it longer but the record will be interrupted.

Libre readings bottom out and flatline... yet I'm still alive

Re. sensors coming loose. I've fortunately not had this but what I do is apply it and then wear it covered with a piece of elasticated tubular bandage for about 12 hours. Don't know if this really helps but it gives me peace of mind and I'm a very restless sleeper.

    FreeStyle Libre

I live in the UK and have been self-funding a Libre for about a year now. I use it for 2 weeks then finger prick for 1 week then back to the Libre which brings the cost down to below£1000 per year. I do vary this according to what is happening in my life eg holidays, the Christmas period etc It...

    Buckinghamshire FS Libre position.

Yes, it is £11 cheaper than the current self-funding price but that may be cancelled out by the cost of a private prescription and a pharmacy handling fee. Not all doctors will give you a private prescription for nothing.

Does being diabetic affect your relationship?

"Whoever you share your life with has to learn that diabetes is part of it and cannot be ignored". This! Please don't hide your diabetes from your friends, colleagues or current/future partners. You don't have to thrust it in their face at first meeting but you need to be open. I was diagnosed...
