    Coming off Metformin advice?

It does. Thanks. I took the decision to reduce and then out of the blue had a call from the local diabetes nurse. The first time in 18 months, despite contacting them numerous times. Anyway, she agreed, I should reduce one a day and then review when I am next tested.

Type 2 and High Blood Pressure

Hand grip exercises are thought to reduce blood pressure. I'd say a good thing generally and good for people that have mobility issues as you can do them sitting down. But, like everything, there are conflicting research results. Most I've read don't find a significant benefit for BP.

    Atorvastatin

I take 40mg Atorvastatin. I was diagnosed with very high cholesterol in my mid 20s. Not just raised - very high; 13s and 14s. Nothing was done until about 7 years ago (30 odd years later) when visiting the doctor for an unrelated routine thing. He took some bloods and discovered the v high...

    Sugar substitutes & their safety.

What are you using it for? Honestly, the best option is to not use sweeteners at all. You don't need them - it's just a case of getting used to it. I promise you that after 3 months of not using sweeteners you'll gag if you accidentally drink something with a sweetener in it.

    Vitamins and supplments?

I think you are right to have doubts. A normally healthy person who eats a reasonably varied diet gets all the vitamins they need and supplements are unnecessary. The one exception (for some people) is vitamin D in the winter. Good D levels are very beneficial and many people don't get enough...

    Coming off Metformin advice?

Thanks for that. I realised I can't eliminate carbs completely so I've always worked on the basis of reduce where I can. The muesli is a low carb version - more nuts than cereal - and the milk is 33% of the porridge carbs. I found it easy to switch to Almond so thought why not? And now I've...

    Coming off Metformin advice?

Diagnosed 18 months ago; HBA1c was 107. I was put onto Metformin - 2x 500mg tabs twice a day. I was 15 and a half stone at the time but I'm 6' 2" and fit. To look at I don't have an ounce of fat on me. I thought I had a reasonably good diet but it was a lot of pasta, rice and potatoes and...

    Vitamins and supplments?

I take vitamin D in the Winter months and also a fibre supplement daily. The good bacteria which resides in the colon is central to general health and wellbeing and these bacteria feed on fibre, which is not fully provided by most modern diets. Soluble fibre is particularly important and can...
