    Type 1 and Pancreatitis

Hi I had 'end-stage-Chronic-Calcified-Pancreatitis' ..... which after a rollercoaster ride of 4 years, living more in hospital than out and 6 major operations I have had what was left of my rotten pancreas totally removed and am classed as Brittle Diabetic. Many people have (lesser) forms of...

    Anyone with no Pancreatic function?

In terms of dealing with Type 1 diabetes (which is how you have to look at Type 3c, which is what you have due to surgical diabetes) there is a lot of great fabulous information on this forum, you need to work out your personal carb to insulin ratio and that your basal (background) insulin is...

Hypothetical Cast Away Situation - T1D

Diamattic - I can assure you with 100% certainty that I have absolutely had the whole of my pancreas removed, I had two partials first and then a total removal, in answer to your statement about functioning normally - no I don't :) I have Brittle Diabetes, and the other function the pancreas...

Hypothetical Cast Away Situation - T1D

How long do you think those of us who have had their pancreas surgically removed would last (no insulin, glucagon, amylin, C-peptide etc...) ? The same? less? somehow impossibly longer??? I have often thought about the 'castaway scenario' and decided that if anyone else was with me they would...

    Yoga

Well done :) I ask my students to leave their egos at the door, which seems to be harder for the guys ;) I once "lost myself" for half an hour... if the alignment is correct it is easier than standing on your feet :) However, I couldn't run the way you do, have never had the inclination to run...

    Very strange thought but ...

I have had mine taken out, not much fun, it does a lot more than just insulin production and causes a lot more problems without it :(

Any diabetics work in the fitness industry?

I would not be able to work full time, but I teach yoga, 5 x 90 minute classes a week, and have a couple of regular one-to-one clients most weeks. I feel like I have the best job in the world. :)

    Breakfast

Low carb whey protein powder, made into a pancake (one scoop powder, tsp. baking powder well mixed, add water, mix, add egg, mix, more water if necessary) pour into hot pan, 3 minutes, flip over, 1 minute - done! I serve with berries & a dollop of cream. or Avocado toastie: I toast 2 slices...

An open letter to my liver ...

Dear Rod, it is your liver here... I don't need to tell you I behave thoughtlessly at times but its only because I love you :) I constantly worry about you, let's be fair you never used to look after me properly so I had to take matters into my own hands, I don't want your brain to be foggy as I...

    Fasting and BG levels

This happens to me, but I have an excuse - my whole pancreas was surgically removed, so I know I have no glucagon to rely on. I guess that those Type 1's with pancreas still in situ have no way of knowing if the alpha cells are working? Hopefully someone knowledgeable may have an answer for you :)
