I've recently changed from an Accu Check Insight with Dexcom CGM to the Medtronic 780G with Smartguard and the Guardian Link 3 CGM.
For day to day living/dog walking and work, this system is fantastic with TIR around 93%. However I'm struggling to use the Smartguard with activities like running 5Km or 10Km.
With the Accu Check Insight I did allot to get my running routines developed to the point where I could run a 50mile Ultra Marathon (Brecon to Cardiff in 2019), I would 2hours prior reduce my basal levels then allow my bloods to creep to 11mmol/L before going out on my runs, I would then keep my basal rate at the lower setting during the day whilst my body recovers from the run, this worked amazingly well. Smartguard uses a Temp Target which will only allow your blood glucose to max at 8.3mmol/L but doesn't even seem to do that, I'm now scared whilst running as I have been as low as 2.3mmol/L with the pump buzzing yet I cannot get blood glucoses to correct unless taking on board lucozade or dextrosol/LIFT glucose chews after only 2 to 3km.
Has anyone else encountered issues with sport and the use of this Smartguard system, as I've lost my way and uncertain how I can use this system if I want to start running again now Lockdown is lifting. Any tips and tricks would be gratefully received.
