    Relatively newly diagnosed...Jan 2024

Excellent response - I think it's the first time that I have read such a clear statement on this Forum about insulin use.

How much time do you spend having low blood sugar (<4mmol/L)?

What a good reply, Antjie! I recall having this discusssion a while ago with my specialist. He had noticed that we were nowadays reading a lot of death notices for military men in WW2 - many of whom were pow's imprisoned in concentration camps for years. They had little food, very poor diet, and...

Insulin resistance - Dr Jason Fung's video (again)

Thanks, Jonathan - I can understand your explanation that the insulin 'starts in the wrong place' because it is injected into the outer skin (not, to be fair, necessarily into 'fat'). I don't think that "some gets to the pancreas" is part of the physiology, though. My pancreas, like most Type...

Insulin resistance - Dr Jason Fung's video (again)

I really appreciate your well-considered reply to my post, Cat. Thank you. You have some interesting concepts - though I don't agree with all of them. I can see that my complaint about Dr Fung's video starts with the headline that it is about 'Insulin Resistance'. More correctly it should be...

Insulin resistance - Dr Jason Fung's video (again)

Today (07/08/2023) Dr Fung's video on insulin resistance has been aired yet again. I have two negative responses. 1] He incorrectly states, more than once, "Too much insulin causes insulin resistance". 2] He refers, more than once, only to Type II diabetes. But Type I diabetics also can suffer...

"Masterclass - Insulin resistance" (Monday 06/02/23)

It was the headline story for yesterday's Diabetes Co UK daily email circular (06/02/23).

"Masterclass - Insulin resistance" (Monday 06/02/23)

I found this article very disappointing - a 'chicken or egg' muddle. By which I mean, for example, that symptoms are often confused with causes, and vice versa. Whilst Dr Simon Fung's video was precise and informative, the text was not. I have no idea why the second (un-attributed) video was...

    Injection sites not working.

Hi - I've been type ! for 28 years. Always well controlled (HBA1c 6.5). In 2017 (age 78 years) it got more & more difficult to control, with fluctuating insulin doses needed, steadily increasing to acheive the desired blood glucose result. I didn't find that there was any dependence on the...

    Limited strength to inject

I have recently moved on from Lantus to a newer degludec insulin called Xultophy - made by Norvo Nordisc. It comes in a pen with a spring-loaded dose dialler. The lightest touch on it activates the powered injection. I'm sure this would solve your problem - ask your GP for advice.
