Diabetes and the impact on relationships

Hello, I’m really not sure if this is the right place to be but my husband was diagnosed type 1 - three and a half years ago and he’s completely changed as a person. He is very angry all the time and has lots of episodes when he lashes out verbally. He has walked out on his family and said he’s...

    New to insulin pump

Yes my husband is very into his exercise so hoping it will help. I think at the moment he’d found the injecting with a pen quite a lot and as a male (so no handbag) he was struggling to remember everything so I think he feels the pump will be easier to manage! We’re just unsure at the moment...

    New to insulin pump

We’ve ordered a hid-in belt as they seemed the smallest. Can we ask do you find the pump has benefits over injecting with pens?

    New to insulin pump

Thank you so much for this! The nurses yesterday seemed to be putting us off using a Pocket but I think my husband wanted to just be able to pop it in his pocket but because of the medium length tubing we worried if this was too much tubing on show, and could get caught easily?

    New to insulin pump

My husband has just moved onto a pump - I couldn’t tell you the name of it but it’s one that disconnects and has a cannular and tubing. We’re just looking for advice on ease of wearing it; where to wear it best; accessories that work etc. I think day to day my husband is fairly ok with it I...

    Type 1 and sweating?

Thank you - and yet is your control fairly good? My husband was a fairly sweaty person before but nothing that you would notice and now he is starting to get self conscious because it’s meaning coming home from work and changing his clothes! It doesn’t smell though??!

    Type 1 and sweating?

Hi, I’m not sure if there is anything in this but my husband has been type one for just over two years now and has just started excessively sweating from his armpits and we don’t know if there is a link? He has good control and his levels aren’t really ever a worry. He uses the freestyle libre...

    New to the insulin pump

Thank you so much. We will look into the MiaoMiao definitely and source the book. We were lucky that my started using the libre quite soon after his diagnosis (as it came as a huge shock) so the libre making life slightly easier was hugely beneficial. He’s done the DAFNE course and we had to...

    New to the insulin pump

Thank you. We have found that my husband is waking up every night at around 2am - he isn’t having a hypo but just waking up at this time and I think this is because he has too much insulin in his body during the night time and (12-4am) and so his body isn’t fully relaxing? Does that even make...

    New to the insulin pump

My husband has had type 1 diabetes for just over two years now and he is just talking to his diabetic nurse about getting an insulin pump. He is currently using the freestyle libre so hoping the two will link up and his control is fairly good with all of his hba1c being in range. The reason for...

    HbA1c concern

Yes type one - do you think the HbA1c of 41 has concerned the nurse in the sense that she thinks it’s too low due to too many hypos? It isn’t that at all I’m hoping it’s low simply due to good control and a quick reaction to highs because of the freestyle LibreLinkUp?? I was worried because the...

    No he is type One??

    HbA1c concern

But we are slightly concerned that a HbA1c of 41 is not in range for a diabetic and we are questioning why it is so low when he does have good control? His hypos (touch wood) have never been serious and he has good hypo awareness but a HbA1c is 41 is not right is it and is it s worry to have it...

    HbA1c concern

Oh no sorry I meant one hypo A WEEK probably we can’t be exact sorry! But still it’s a very low HbA1c for him having generally ok control. The nurse said she was concerned his HbA1c was 41 and said he had too much insulin in his body! Apart from reducing his long lasting she didn’t say what else...
