I was allergic to Metformin as well and GP put me on Forxiga and Gliclizide. I have not had any real problems on this combination. Although some people can develop thrush from Forxiga which is a listed side effect. Hope that this info helps.

I got a meter from Aviva Accucheck website free of charge. You could try that. Found it easy to use. I am lucky living in Scotland as I get my strips free on prescription from my GP.
