    New T2

Finally caught up with the GP and got my results back. FBG was 4.7. Insulin and C-pep levels were normal. 9 hour fast. Turns out my Accu-chek Guide isn't particularly accurate and reads high. I did a test before (5.3) and after (5.4) the blood sample draw.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Figured I should start posting here instead. I got diagnosed with T2 11 days ago with a FBG of 11.9 and HbA1C of 11%. Been on Metformin since, semi-controlled diet and a 45min workout daily. Low carb, but not no carb. 5.1 this morning. 5.x FBGs for 7 days straight now.

    New T2

@JoKalsbeek no worries, we all have our moments! Fasting BG was 5.1 this morning. Seems certain carbs affect me less than others. Had half a bowl of basmati rice with dinner and BG went from 6.3 pre-meal to 6.7 2h postprandial!

    New T2

Thanks all for the advice and encouragement. Fasting BG was 5.3 mmol this morning so things are looking promising! @EllieM GP seems to think it has something to do with my hyperthyroidism. Exercise tends to bring my BGs down rather quickly. About 2 days ago I did a 30 minute brisk walk + 15...

    New T2

I believe the timing and delta of postprandial spikes/peaks are also important. I can have a small serve of rice, bread or potatoes with my meal and my 2 hour postprandial will be low 7s. Yet some have the opinion that any amount of carbs are bad and this will lead to insulin dependency in 10...

    New T2

My fasting BG was 5.5 mmol this morning. This is the 4th day in a row it's been at 5.x after only a week from being diagnosed, so I must be doing something right? No one has been able to provide any additional information on what a postprandial BG curve should look like other than 'it should be...

    New T2

Thank you @EllieM, this is a much more friendly, understanding and informative response that I was looking for.

    New T2

Again, I'm not 're-introducing' carbs so I can go back to my previous diet before diagnosis. I am also not aiming to have zero carbs, and having a look at some other threads on this forum, I can see there are some who manage 100g of carbs/day and yet maintain normal HbA1C and fasting BG levels...

    New T2

I never said I went back to my old carb load. I'm on significantly less carbs than I was previously, typically <80g a day. I'm also maintaining ketosis with my current carb load. As I mentioned earlier, most of my readings at 2 hours post meals are under 7.8 mmol. I'm not expecting miracles so...

    New T2

Hi there, I was diagnosed a week ago with T2. I'm 36/m, family history of diabetes; my father was diagnosed with T2 in his early 30s. I'm of asian descent, so rice is a staple and hence my diet is quite heavy on carbs. I've also had hyperthyroidism, however this has gone into remission and my...
