Bigfoot reveals its automated insulin delivery system: - See more at: http://diatribe.org/bigfoot-bi

That looks fascinating. Does 'closed loop' mean that it will also add insulin in in case of highs? It says that the Medtronic will have that by April 2017. Which is also good news. I like the idea of this one, though - my one HUGe bugbear of the Medtronic is how huge it is to wear and how it has...

    DSN retired

I had problems with my supply, and it turned out my DSN had not sent them a letter explaining and giving them permission to give me my stuff. Or rather, she had, but it had gone out of date and they needed another, or something like that. I would phone my Consultant's secretary and explain what...

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

It's almost impossible to tell what is going to happen, but the sound of it, sorry to hear about your eyes, richy.

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

I don't know. If I did, perhaps it would be easier to do something about it. Everything seems to affect my control - being hot, cold, worried, stressed, happy, sad, concentrating... and sometimes the aforementioned send me high, at other times, low. So hard to predict. If you look at the...

Comparing MDI and pumping in advance of the REPOSE study

Ah... I agree, just a pump cannot. But I'd argue that being able to have a lower basal at certain times is bound to help those with problems during the night, so safer at least. And, that was before 'low suspend'. My new 640G pump suspends my basal before i go low - at about 5, and what happens...

Comparing MDI and pumping in advance of the REPOSE study

I, too use a pump because of hypos, rather than HbA1c. In fact mine has gone up considerably - because it was the result of loads of highs and loads and loads of lows.... it is a very rough guide to control as it is only an average, and can be misleading. I need no basal at all from midnight...

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

Well... I think it is different for different people. I went to France this year for the first holiday for 15 years and the first time for a holiday alone and it was the most stressful week I have ever spent. Are you well and easily controlled? I think this is an important detail in the...

Medtronic 640g and Enlite sensor life

Hi there! I've had the 640G since October. I've watched a video of how to insert the sensors/transmitter to get the most out of them... it involves making sure they are situated with the sensor pointing to the north or south. So up/down. And when the inserter is placed on the body, not pressing...

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

Thanks, Flowerpot, that is interesting. Yes, and your post brings into focus the reason for going back to analogue - bringing down those highs I see as very important, considering how bad my overall control is already. I'm so sorry to hear what it is like on the other side of the genetic throw...

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

Yes. Did that. I was 6 hours, too. If my fingers get too bad I may well go back to it, but at the minute being able to bring down 'highs' quickly is wonderful - I couldn't do that on porcine, correction boluses took forever.

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

Oooh, didn't see that CarbsRok. I was on animal insulin in my pump for years. It did not help me regain my hypo awareness symptoms, sadly. It did make me feel healthier, it did help with my hands, but it did not help with my control - ultimately, I am better controlled on analogue insulin, so...

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

Hello, RuthW, thank you for replying. The deciding factor for the Dr recommending a transplant isn't the number or severity of my complications, but the number and severity of my hypos. Some time ago these became more numerous I had a series where I became unconscious and wasn't found, on two...

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

If diet helps then I should be fine - I eat a low carb diet, very high in veg (lots of brassicas!) and salad, and fruit including blueberries twice a day. My cholesterol is perfect. My blood pressure normal. BG is the problem. Will have a look at the link.

Long term complications - how many have them, how many don't?

Hi noblehead and carbsrok, thank you for your replies. I'll definitely look them up, thanks, noblehead! Carbsrok, that sounds fabulous! I'm 45 years with it, and a bit irritated by the eye thing. I meant to say above that in the Independent Diabetes Trust newsletter there was a woman who...
