Do you need a letter from doctor to get diabetes medicine on a plane?

I'm going on a plane for the first time since being diabetic. Do I need a letter from the doctor to get my insulin and needles on a plane?

Things are going ok so far. I've been in my honeymoon period for the last couple of months. So haven't had to take any insulin. That seems to be coming to an end so I have started to take a little in the past week. Don't quite feel so bad about it now. I guess I have had time to get used to it...
